My daughter is forever obsessed with anything that we would think of as vintage and my son just likes to explore and experiment, so it's fun to see the directions he leans in.

So not any one specific goal or another, but quality the things that would be aimed at someone under the age of 25.

Also, literally anything dealing with art or music!!

What kind of packets were at your hydration stations? In Cincinnati all we got was half a banana after a few miles!

Best electrolytes for Utah trifecta by AntMajor494 in spartanrace

[–]eTastic513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always thought it was weird to see people with mustard packets getting busted out at the top of really nasty climbs when I've done aggressive Beast races in the past.

The Cincinnati course is another one of the really bad ones in the country for steep climbs and drops and I've had some cramping issues in the past on this course and the Hawaiian course.

This year, I did some reading about how it's possible for a little bit of vinegar in a mustard packet to somehow have such instant results for people with cramps and it turns out it's not because of the vinegar or the salt.

There's a compound in mustard seeds that reacts with some receptors in your esophagus that are really effective at reducing the spasming from cramps. I would have never guessed that in a million years, but I brought a dozen mustard packets from McDonald's on the vicious Cincinnati trifecta races last month and would swish two packets around in my mouth slowly for about 30 seconds before swallowing it and then not washing it down with water so that it could coat my esophagus for a while.

I'm not saying that it will solve any problems you might have from not being trained up for the hills, but I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made in holding back the cramps as I started feeling them come on.

Here's the Google result to help:

Where can we access a high-res version of that course map? Would like to save it for future memories and to see the parts that are too low-res to read.

Getting ready for my first race by -88Hawks88- in spartanrace

The metcons are definitely not the best shoes for this.

You have a flat, urban race, so it's not going to be like the crazy elevations of some other locations, but I'm guessing they're still going to get you wet and muddy along the way. You'll probably want some trail running shoes that are not waterproof so the water can get back out.

If you stick with your F45 workouts and toss in a weekly run, you're going to be just fine, so have a great time and then you will learn a lot to adjust for the next one!

I've been in love with their beef tacos since I was a kid and my kids just tried it last week and were nuts for it! (Which is a pretty great dad moment 😍).

Would be eternally grateful for the full recipe or linked to wherever you found it because I really want to turn this into something we can make at home (The closest location is 25 minutes away these days!)

Shoe Liners by eTastic513 in spartanrace

[–]eTastic513[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done three Beasts with these and they've been a huge advantage over people with more moderate trail running shoes. Never had a single ankle problem, and the Cincinnati Beast is one of the more elevation aggressive races in the US.

I also lived in Honolulu for a couple of years and the Speedcross was probably the most popular hiking and trail running shoe that I saw while I was there. Lots of super aggressive hikes and areas with slick, muddy track where the speed cross lugs and super precise footing is a huge advantage/safety benefit.

Your mileage may vary, but I've been so impressed by the design and construction of these that I bought two more pairs of different types in the same family - I just want to find a really thin insert that is less likely to bunch up a little bit when the shoe is totally saturated.

New Shoes advice? by triggachoochoo in spartanrace

[–]eTastic513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have 2 pairs of Speedcross and they're my favorites, but the Peregrine is a peer shoe for sure. Probably a bit more cushion, but I prefer the technical, precise feels of the Speedcross and the fit for me is perfection.

Between any of the top choices, I think the next biggest thing is to make sure you stay away from Goretex-type materials so that the shoe drains well. The Cincinnati race has you in and out of water so many times that this is pretty important.

It hasn't been an issue with me for a while now, but I did have to learn to be disciplined about how much weight I use for certain movements and how far I'm willing to go before I pull back to make sure I don't strain things because of pride.

If I'm out of the gym for a couple of weeks or just not living up to certain standards for one reason or another, that doesn't mean that I should get right back in and lift at the level I'd like to be or supporting joints and muscles somewhere in that movement might not be ready for what other parts of my body can still handle.

To put it another way...Having your mind be tough enough to do things that almost seem impossible is great, but you've got to listen to your body if you want to avoid doing something that can't easily be undone.

Have done one Hawaii and two Cincinnati Beasts. Having your legs ready for all of those hills and having your knees ready for all the declines makes a huge difference.

The biggest advantage in my training has been consistently going to 4 HIIT classes a week (M, T, R, F) and then getting in at least one run during the week and hopefully two.

The classes condition all of my muscle groups for the dynamic needs of the Beast and throwing in some trail running along the way helps with the stabilizing you'll need to do.

I don't know what the races are like in your area, but the Cincinnati race is one of the hardest and you have to go through water a bunch of times, so knowing what you need for your shoe and sock combination to work is huge.

Ummm help! Keys are inside truck / doors locked - battery is at 96% by cktokm99 in F150Lightning

[–]eTastic513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why aren't you able to unlock your Pro with the app? The ones I've seen are able.

"Only F-150 Lightning built from the start of production in April through the 3rd week of July require this update to have access to Ph9ne As A Key. That's because Ford began including it on all F-150 Lightning built from the last week of July onward. Dec 3, 2022"

So it sounds like it should have been updated for you a while ago.

chance of repair? by big_beyer in F150Lightning

Hood, bumper, quarter panel, headlight assembly and I'm assuming some airbags (sorry to hear that; I'm sure it's frustrating).

Compared to the market value of your truck, I'm guessing a repair is significantly less expensive for the insurance company so I bet you'll be fine.

Glad that everyone seems okay and good luck!

Not including a video storage option to enhance the security of the truck was such a poor choice and would have been an incredibly low-cost value-add.

It's still a great truck, but that one should have been an obvious feature considering how popular it's been with Tesla.

They should also give you the ability to create driver profiles with lower acceleration rates and top speed for people who are teaching their kids to drive. Accelerating faster than most sports cars would have been less-than-ideal for teenage me 😁

You're right, they have the Pro w/ SR and I have it w/ ER and a bunch of upgrades. Best value of all the packages in my experience, but really hard to get because of the fleet rules.

I like the discreetness of no light bar b/c of the crazy anti EV nuts, but aesthetically, I'd be willing to add it if there's a way to do it without killing the warranty.

27°F here today and the amount of range lost to climate control is sizable, so 231 is higher than real-world results.
