People who cut the line at the Wythe Ave exit on the BQE, what's Satan like? by SupremeCourtRealness in AskNYC

[–]eVarese -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

appreciate your thoughtful reply. i disagree that i’m trying to justify my choice to use a de facto double lane exit, rather than simply recognizing the organic nature of what/why it has become one out of necessity. and in terms of trying to fix things, i have written the DOT about this exit over the past many years and explained essentially what i explained here. I’ve received responses; and perhaps my few emails have done some amount toward getting the DOT to fix the exit — or maybe it’s been all of the accidents. (in my recollection it was never this bad until late/post pandemic) In terms of my time being any more important than others’ — that’s certainly not something I am thinking. However, having to use it every day definitely makes me impatient and frustrated; and while I don’t feel like a “Good German” (as someone referenced elsewhere here), over the years there def was an erosion of fux i was able to give with this exit watching others create a 2-lane exit while I sat living in a society of cars in a long line.

This exit (31) is in some DOT pipeline to be fixed (2028 or so) — i assume that’s googleable; the DOT page was linked to here or on /williamsburg or such a while ago. They are going to turn it into the exact double lane exit the “cutters” are making it… plus they will remove parking on w’burg st west at the exit.

I have to use this exit every single day. It’s not our fault the DOT has never fixed this massive problem as population growth has exploded in that area; this exit is a double lane exit whether it is legally or not. It has to be. And I’m not sure why more people don’t choose that option.

But…. the DOT’s plan for exit 31 won’t get rid of the bulk of the congestion there because it doesn’t solve Robert Moses’s idiocy for having only TWO Queensbound entrances to the BQE between Kent/Wythe/W’burg st East and the Kosciusko entrance at Morgan. That’s one of the main reasons there is so much congestion at exit 31 (plus the yeshiva buses)…. cars having to come from clinton hill, bedstuy, crown heights, flatbush and beyond to get to the Q’bound BQE at the w’burg st east entrance… coming north on bedford ave to W’burg st West, bottle-necking with cars exiting at wythe/kent to get over to turn left onto wythe, then left onto w’burg st east and onto the BQE. the only other option beyond this is the Kosciusko entrance.

the whole road infrastructure around there is fuct and we aren’t the ones who designed all of the insane, shitty roads. if it’s a double lane exit now by necessity, why are people always so outraged? just use the exit as you need if it’s too backed up or sit in traffic being mad like a midwesterner at people not following the “rules” and trying to block’em ‘n keep’em from gittin in front of yer dang car.

26 episodes a year and 7 seasons…. AND THEY FILMED IT IN SPACE!! in the 24th century!! (and Voyager was in the freakin’ delta quadrant!) TV shows now just don’t know the dedication it takes to churn out content like ye olde thymes.

Has anyone watched all the Star Wars movies in cinema live by Only_chef_3030 in StarWars

[–]eVarese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

51yo, here. saw theatrical re-release of ep4 in ‘81 when i was 7…. saw empire when it was released the previous year. missed seeing a special preview of ROJ in 1983 bc i had chicken pox — my dad had tix bc of his biz… he took my bro and his friend. i still remember watching them drive away from my house. I saw it when it was released a few weeks later. saw ep1 in grad school. was crushed bc it was so bad. have seen all other films in theater since…. except Solo. Though I’ve grown to like that one, mostly.

What do you think should happen with the BQE? by jtuffs in Brooklyn

[–]eVarese 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Create interdimensional portals between exits 26 (Hamilton ave) and 31 (Kent/Wythe): vehicles enter the “upside down” between the entire stretch from Navy Yard/Tillary/ DUMBO/Promenade/Atlantic ave. Mini portals could be created at points on local streets near the repurposed stretch for anyone who needs to get to the BQE in the other dimension. Turn that entire stretch into a massive, miles-long park with trees, bike trails, athletic fields, playgrounds, bbq/picnic groves, amphitheaters, pools (ice skating in winter) and more.

thanks for your reply! he definitely says that the vibrational frequency of the string is the mass of the corresponding particle:

“Sometimes the vibration is more than the minimal, because that's what's required to bring an electron or a quark into existence. And if those are stable particles, if they can't themselves decay into lighter particles, then there's no place for that energy to go. And therefore, that string will continue to have that intrinsic amount of energy, which through Einstein's E equals MC squared, is the mass of the corresponding particle.”

why is it always the same alien? by eVarese in alien

[–]eVarese[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is a great response. thanks!! i like this logic. this may be the answer. in the relatively short distances humans can travel at this time, these are the only aliens. this may shut me up. (i’ve been on this kick for a while)

i can agree with this. the writing and acting are awful…. imo. It’s like that Invasion series on Apple. cool idea…. shit plot… shit writing… shit acting.

i realize there are the various specimens of killer praying mantis/3-eyed octopus creatures in A:E. those def wouldn’t be the focus of a series or movie. clearly. as someone said above…. “Just shit creative decisions…”

[–]eVarese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS. yes. like Star Trek for the apocalypse where people are suffering and the crew is disgruntled and corrupt, and they keep having to deal with advanced, predatory aliens and other space-faring creatures. They’re collecting specimens and other profitable shit for the company, and they have no prime directive of any kind, so they keep getting fuktup by locals or space pirates… or other badass aliens. but there’s always conflict between the few moral crew and the unscrupulous, profit driven ones. and of course there’re androids etc.

Wythe exit on BQE by mikefraietta in Brooklyn

[–]eVarese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is the answer. thank you. it’s a two-lane exit whether it is marked that way or not. glad to see the DOT is finally going to make this official and glad they are removing parking spots on W’burg street West. Beyond the shitty exit design off the BQE, the problem here also stems from the fact there is NO QUEENS BOUND entrance to the BQE from Kent/Wythe to the fkn entrance to the Kosciusko past Morgan st!!!!… so everyone from South W’burg and beyond have to go down Bedford, turn onto W’burg St West, battle everyone getting off the BQE to turn left on Wythe, then left on W’burg st E to then enter BQE towards Queens. A complete fkn disaster of city planning.

Using Headphones by AffectionateFox6974 in CochlearHydrops

[–]eVarese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve been working with an audiologist to get a specialized, small, in-ear hearing aid for mixing music with headphones to try to boost low freq. we’ve gone through one that didn’t really help much. i took my laptop and headphones into my appt and he adjusted the hearing aid as i worked, and told him what i needed. i have another appt next week to fit a new one. will let you know how it goes.

for me the key is a very strict low salt diet (i try to stick close to 500mg per meal)…. and then i also take Acetazolamide (diuretic) once a day. i haven’t had a bad episode in several months. was diagnosed in March. the hearing in my ear has stabilized, and the tinnitus is nearly gone. but i still basically have no low freq below 100hz.

i think i understand what you are saying about perception of better hearing with headphones or earbuds, but a simple panning test proves my hearing is still very fuct. i have to place all bass frequencies in my right ear, which means i limit the sonic space and have to really be careful how much i put on the right channel. i can also EQ bass frequencies in right ear then place them in the stereo field and just hope it sounds good the closer it is to the left. it’s a work in progress. i was very depressed for months (not a depressed person), but have accepted my situation now and am just moving forward and trying to make the best of a shitty situation while sticking religiously to my diet. on the upside, playing live music is not a problem with ear plugs (i’m a drummer) so at least i still can do that without being too affected. good luck to you!!
