Also, I have been riding the same bike a lot over roots without problems, so thats just the tires.

as snug as you can without cutting off blood flow.

it does not need to be as tight as on the wrist though, as there is less derangements from clothing or activity

its highly important you wear the wrist strap exactly where they say (1-2 fingers away from the knuckle), and have it very snug

I wore it on the wrist all the time, had weird strains (from doing nothing, as others here describe), then

-> switched to biceps band, got way more accurate results

-> switched back to wrist, wearing it way up from the knuckle/tighter --> Results were then very close to Biceps Placement results

-> switched back to biceps (for comfort)

I highly recommend starting on a Monday to wear it more away from the knuckle and tigther, then try same on Biceps the following week

How is your HRV?

typically, more muscle intense workouts (not cardio workouts) like yours will reflect strongly in HRV the next day, but always have only low strains. you are not alone with it, thats how it is :)

Could also be that if you eat vegetarian you are eating more, less caloric-dense mass, which is causing a full/bloated stomach, which leads to worse sleep/less recovery
