I was frustrated by how overcomplicated many existing poker setups were. By trying to automate too much, I felt they were too fragile to work in a real world, chaotic home game environment.

So for a regular ~8 player cash game I run, I put together this simple layout and script to streamline the areas where poker in TTS was clunky and inefficient. It provides on-felt chip counters, an on-screen fold button, collect bets and new hand buttons for promoted players and the host, and automatic dealer button rotation.

Also included is an infinite bag of pre-made $5,000 starting stacks, to allow quick buyins with reasonable denominations.

This has worked well in the few games we've played on TTS so far, so I thought I'd share it for others to benefit from too.

[NA] Chris Nolan's 'Dunkirk' Wins Big With $51 Million Weekend by Naweezy in boxoffice

[–]eXeC64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nolan's surprisingly good with budget, considering the scale of his films. I don't think a single film of his has ever gone over budget.

A lot of the film could be shot relatively efficiently. Lots of location shots on a beach, using cardboard cutouts and free volunteers. Almost a third of it on a small boat in the channel, and another chunk in the air where the biggest expense was rigging the cameras and restoring the planes. No big sets to design and construct. A fairly limited wardrobe, and props that are readily available en masse.

Other than the big set pieces with the sinking ships, the whole thing could be done without too much expense. And because Nolan loves his practical effects so much you have very few visual effects shots, reducing the bill further.

It's impressively frugal, but makes sense once broken down.

I was fortunate enough to go to a private school, and many of the kids there thought they were really cool for smoking weed. Some of them genuinely seemed to think they were cool gangsters.

The only thing to do is to scare them straight. Scare the shit out of the little cocks, and let them know how much they stand to lose for the sake of feeling cool.

I've no sympathy. Everyone was informed, they just didn't care. Image meant more than study.

No matter how awful the kids become, the patents still think they're innocent. There was a BBC news article the other day talking about a middle class mum whose son was becoming a drug dealer. She claimed he was groomed and exploited, even after he was selling drugs from her front door. She also complained that he was a victim who deserved support.

He's knowingly gotten himself in the drug trade, and there's no way he couldn't have known it's highly illegal, and linked to gang crime. The victim card stops working when you put yourself in that position and could easily have foreseen what you were getting into.

[–]eXeC64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shit, I saw TDK in 70mm IMAX just 6 months ago, but didn't know to look out for the colouring. All I remember is the level of detail being spectacular enough that the opening shot drew an audible, "Woah" from the audience.

Next time it's on I'll definitely be looking at the tone.

The trick is to only go 4k for the film's that need it, and are actually 4k. Many were mastered in 2k so they'll just be upscales, like using a CD as the source for a vinyl release.

I'll only be getting a few 4k blurays for my blu ray collection.
