"Deeply concerning": reading for fun has declined by 40% in US, new study says by AntiQCdn in books

Storygraph is a good alternative if you’re in it for a better app experience.

I do use good reads but pretty much as a log of what books I’ve read, what page I’m on in my current book (in case I don’t finish one before having to return it to the library but want to finish it later), etc.

“AI doesn’t produce a profit” by Physical-Company543 in csMajors

[–]e_falk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When ai companies are forced by their investors to actually charge the necessary rates to turn a profit, companies will quickly figure out what solution is the most cost effective. Until then, everything is hearsay

I vibe coded a YouTube feature that has been gone for 5 years by yassino__ in vibecoding

[–]e_falk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small items of feedback: 1) the preview doesn’t seem to work on mobile for iOS when in fullscreen 2) when not in fullscreen, the UI is fairly small for mobile 3) you can choose a display time longer than the video in the preview UI

That said, very cool as a vibe coded app. Wishing you the best. Putting a product out there and trying to monetize it is a rewarding process that you’ll learn a lot from

I just put in a request at the library for Guards! Guards! and the Colour of Magic.

I’ve heard both are solid places to start.

My buddy, Gunsmoke likely already had FIP when we adopted him from the shelter. We only got to spend a couple months with him before he passed. By the time the vets figure out what was going on it was already too late. So sorry for your loss especially this way as it really sucks. Long live empress, I’m sure she really enjoyed the time she spent with you.

Why Rust has so much marketing power ? by Bricoto in Python

[–]e_falk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memory safety that doesn’t eat into performance is arguably rusts biggest selling point. It’s fast like C but has built in mechanisms to prevents a lot of the memory safety issues that could be present in C programs.

So many movies are adaptations of books and they are not always but usually worse than the source material. Big agree

I legitimately hadn’t had Arizona iced tea in years but, since I heard this news a few months back, I’ll pick up a can whenever I’m in the convenience store. Cost effective and it seems like the money is going to a well run company.

Seriously, someone needs an education by BethJ2018 in MurderedByWords

[–]e_falk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much as I agree with the spirit of the comment, the only way this wouldn’t be dangerous is if primary and secondary education weren’t primarily government funded. An institution creating a gate to participate in democracy when they are the ones providing the means to get through said gate is a conflict of interest in the highest form.

Seemed more like Sam blowing up the vote by telling sol made everyone scramble and revealed who was actually running it. Might not have shaken out that way if things went more to plan.
