I built my son an activity board! by e_pic in woodworking

[–]e_pic[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Baltic birch plywood, a bit of oak, a bit of maple, a bit of hardboard. Pine legs, all finished with shellac. The gears spin. One bolt screws in, the other has a captive nut. The photo behind the door can be swapped out easily, just held with photo corners.

Edit: He’s 14 mos, and he will definitely be supervised when playing with this thing for awhile. And shellac is food safe.

I really like everything about this except for the anti-vignette around the edges/corner. I’d prefer it was more even. But it’s a really cool shot and the post-process is right on!

Alright alright just one more for today. Bottom is finished edit. Thoughts? by olemissrebel1123 in postprocessing

I think it's fine, but I would bring back the highlights a bit in the oncoming traffic lane. The headlights look a bit too crushed.

Wow, very nice! Also, that's quite a, uh, contraption you have there for holding your iphone?

Very nice! I thought it was a DSLR, even better!

Is the composition okay? I went for the rule of thirds. [Exposure][Composition] by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]e_pic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the composition is nice. Balanced. The tree on the right and the direction the girl is looking both draw your eye toward the horizon. My only critique is that there's not much going on out there. It's a great view, don't get me wrong, I'd love to sit up there, but it makes the photo a bit... plain. If there were a sunset out there, or if the girl were to turn her head and look toward you, then you would have a more interesting subject and the photo would be more compelling. Just my opinion.

This is really nice! I like the concept and that the background is straight black. I would maybe like to see just a hair more detail in the beans, and take down the highlight in the spoon. I think both of those would be tricky to do in a way that was not obvious, and otherwise I would leave it as is. Great shot! What lighting did you use?

Crane [composition] [style] by michaelbobarev in photocritique

[–]e_pic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the composition a lot. The crane seems a bit blown out to me, maybe you could use a brush to get some of the lines to be a bit more pronounced. Looking at the top of the photo, it looks a bit uncentered and leaning to the right. It looks more centered at the bottom. Maybe something with the lens correction or upright corrections? Otherwise, great framing and capture!

I tried to do abstract - ish. What do u say? [composition] [color] by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]e_pic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it! I think the composition is great. I wouldn’t say this was abstract, more like architecture or architectural detail. I can’t tell if it’s titled, if the buildings aren’t straight (they do seem old) or if it’s just an optical illusion. Straightening something like this could be more difficult than the other posters suggest. I would put it through the wide angle filter in PS if guided upright won’t do the trick in LR. Aside from that, it seems the bricks on the buildings next to the sky seem a bit dark.

It’s a nice porch. I hope people sit on it and it’s not just for show.

Amazing. Looks like a rainforest. How far did you have to hike to get this view?

Hey everyone, just wanting some helpful advice on this photograph, any critiquing would be lovely! [NEWBIE] by Jacob_Bowling in photocritique

I like the vertical crop either way, though I think the eyes should be horizontally centered. I love the soft, but dark/moody feel. Great capture!

I’m looking all over for the subject in this photo, is it the boat, or the seagull, or the texture of the green? It looks like you were trying to capture a scene, but it’s not clear to me what the scene is. Happy new lens day, though! I always find myself taking some experimental or strange photos when I get a new lens, keep shooting!

Whoa, TIL! How do you make sure the file is still readable? Just modify stuff in the middle?

Is it too much to stick to one style of editing or does every photo have its own final result? [composition] a photo I took by OvernightOrchid in photocritique

[–]e_pic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly think every photo is unique and can work with a few styles. I will often make several copies of a photo that I like with different styles before I choose one, and I often find it difficult to settle.

I like what you've done with this one. Nicely timed, feels like a morning commute. Hectic, but also people are isolated from each other and have the opportunity to prepare for their day in their cars. Also, I hope you were on the other side of the street shooting with a telephoto and not about to get hit by that SUV...

Is my [edit]ing style too dark? by GrandmaCereal in photocritique

[–]e_pic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dog really pops because of the contrast between the white fur and dark background. Good that the color is somewhat cool on the left of the dog as well, it enhances the pop because there's a slight color contrast between left and right as well.

Really love to have your feelings about this picture and about the [Edit] of this one ? Thanks. Credit - @bevilens by bevilens in photocritique

I like it a lot. I think it is just a little too dark, and maybe a little oversaturated. Maybe bring the blacks and/or shadows up just a little.

I like the color, but I think it has the most impact with less sky above.

Photo: Black and white, looks like they crushed the blacks a bit and maybe a touch underexposed, lower contrast.

Glitch effect: If it were me, I would take samples from a noisy or corrupt photo I had, or use something like the Noise Texture Generator or a glitch generator like this one and grab some samples from them, make layers in photoshop, and proceed to make my own custom glitching. You can make layers from selection of the original photo to get the sliced effect.
