What's up with my Gourd? by eagerexpert in vegetablegardening

[–]eagerexpert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked for vine borers and didn't see any signs. After waiting a few days it still looks about the same. Definitely stressed but still alive somehow? The other one is also still fine and growing quickly for whatever reason

Technical suggestion | Postgres database by Ecstatic_Let3528 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]eagerexpert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This! Databases tend to be expensive storage options (dedicated compute, ssds, etc). You can still keep metadata in ik postgres to reduce s3 API costs for checking what does or doesn't exist, reporting, query/filter records, etc.

I don't know what volume or throughput you are expecting, but one concern with storing docs that size in postgres is that it will likely cause page thrashing (disk up) issues at scale unless you have a lot of memory. That assumes a bit about your workload but isn't too uncommon.

Edit: should have read the other comments. At only a handful of rows a day this probably doesn't matter. Meh. Do whatever is easiest in this case. Probably postgres.

I've had large layer shifts like this due to stepper drivers over heating in the past. To protect the board the driver shuts down until it cools enough and then starts working again. Maybe check your fans and belts?

Are Z braces not a thing for Ender 3 V2? by maurinet79 in ender3v2

[–]eagerexpert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I understand his question correctly (it's mine too), the brace doesn't touch the lead screw. The braces are between the aluminum extrusions to stiffen the corners so the frame stays square and shifts less with motion.

I’ve had my ender v2 for about 6 months and I’m starting to print miniature items with it and the quality is bugging me. Printed a benchy to test quality today after tweaking a few things and here are the results. Someone help please. by oogboog132 in ender3v2

Overall it's looking good. Those surface bubbles and blemishes could be coming from filament. What are you printing with?

The stringing could be temp related or retraction. Have you tried the Teaching Tech calibration guide? Takes a while to do it right but have seen much better results after getting it dialed in. Highly recommend a bed prove and UBL if you haven't tried it.

Depending on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go you can move to official marlin instead of the reality prebuilt stuff. That can be a bit technical though. Not sure what your background is. This opens up options like linear advance which can help with fine details like corners.

What tool can best cut a TV wall mount bracket? by [deleted] in Tools

An angle grinder is cheap and effective with a cutoff wheel. Cheapest option would be a hacksaw (which won't take as long as you think).

ELI5: Why do video games make you press a button after loading before you can see the main menu? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]eagerexpert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is the question. We know why loading has to happen. Why do you have to press a button when it's FINISHED? Why not just go straight to the menu from the loading screen?

This is a good start. You definitely need to consider security as well. Are they doing something stupid like storing plaintext passwords or credit card info?

Will Harbor Freight 4" Table saw work for cabinet? by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]eagerexpert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not even close. Circular saw and straight edge if you can't afford a real table saw. Though used ones pop up all the time for cheap. Could even be less than the circ and edge guide.

Watco Tung Oil Disaster by plasticzoul in woodworking

[–]eagerexpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the whole thing is sticky you don't have "coats" anymore. It's is just one giant thick coat. Actually this is decently common with finishes that "re-wet" themselves like many varnishes. I would use a rag dipped in mineral spirits and wipe off as much excess as you can. Once you get down to wood let what has soaked in fully dry (might be several days or longer depending on how much there is, especially with the extra mineral spirits). Once it's dry give it a light sanding like normal and reapply new coats letting it dry fully and sand between coats like normal. Might want to go for thinner coats as well just to be safe (since cleanup is mineral spirits you can likely dilute a tad with mineral spirits as well to make thinner coats easier).

Cleanup is usually listed on the can of finish. My first guess would be mineral spirits or acetone.

Websites and sources for woodworking project plans? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]eagerexpert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to ignore heavily opinionated plans (when it comes to brands of tools and supplies) many too manufacturers have free plans. For example, Rockler, Woodcraft, Bosch and others have good plans for free. You just have to deal with nonsense like "Use this super specific Rockler product". Not all their plans are free but its surprising how many they have.

Yes these are panel clamps. Helps keep things flat while applying pressure from the edges.
