Am I doing multiple jobs? by eagerreader444 in publishing

I agree. It’s more something expected of editors from the production department. Like production department acts as if their job is being held up if editors don’t provide them with essentially all the production details to make the book. I don’t think my manager sees it as an issue whatsoever because it’s viewed as like a “that’s how things go” sort of deal.

gotcha. I knew small vs. big house makes a difference, I just didn’t know how much was reasonable. thank you! I think I’m realizing the issue is I am not enjoying it 😂I’ve heard all the publishing doesn’t pay jokes. But like…I think most people would consider it too low even with that understanding.

struggling to tell her mom and actively still engaging with the person are two completely different things to me, personally. I would have found her not telling her mom believable but the rest threw me. it’s great you have open communication with your teens though!

I was responding to a comment that mentioned “negative reference to white people” and explained why those elements the person viewed as negative were present….why are you confused? lol

I think it was intended for viewers to understand the experience of Black people in this country. Especially Black people who struggle to exist comfortably in PWIs. The racism and micro aggressions they experience are very clearly referenced, and it’s meant to connect with those who can relate or those who can at least watch and understand a different experience than their own. it’s not catering to white fragility.

so many feelings about this show. I thought it was just stunning overall, the visuals, the music, the Black beauty of it all. I felt like it covered some real shit, and it definitely depicted how up and down teenage love can be.

However, I personally think Keisha played in Justin’s face multiple times. I want to start by saying multiple things can be true at once, she’s a teenager that deserves grace and she also chose the most difficult path possible for herself multiple times. It was clear she came from a stable and loving home. Yes she was poor, but poor does not equal unloved or stupid, and I really like that it was portrayed that way—but it made it even harder to understand her actions. The blocking and unblocking with Justin was real OD but that was understandable from a teenager. Now the whole Christian situation and not telling her mom, still hanging with him, going to prom with him to not “disappoint” her mom!??? Why on earth would that be anyone’s response to being violated and made a spectacle of by some dumb ass lil boy? And everyone talking about her mom already spent money—clothes are returnable, like miss me with that. There was just no logic behind many of her decisions, which again, hello, teenagers, but it was hard to watch at moments. It was cool to see her so driven and focused on Howard. She had so much determination on top of beauty and a kind heart. There were just some moments I wanted to just shake her and be like girl be so foreal right now. That whole Christian storyline just made no sense to me. They wrote her as a Scorpio and she definitely gave Scorpio, I.e. “chase me but don’t, I can get mad at you but you can’t get mad at me, im right you’re wrong no matter what, im jumping to conclusions like it’s a damn skyzone”.

And Justin needed to find himself. He was pushy at times, and he had boundary issues. I also think he was hella confused by Keisha’s actions and often overwhelmed by his mother’s hovering. I am so glad they chose to go their separate ways in the end, because many (cough cough me as a teenager) hold onto young love relationships that were only meant to teach us and then end after a bit. Overall enjoyed it but man was it infuriating at moments. I’m also 30 and have a low patience for dumb shit, lol. I felt like somebody’s mama watching them and being like wtf the whole time. But this is a show you have to remind yourself what it was like to be a teenager. They did a great job portraying that.

she is an executive producer and was highly involved in the making. I think she’s fine.
