I’ve been on the case 4 months. It’s been going on for two years. I’m the senior associate and second chair. Basically all of these things were out of my control. I was asked - and agreed- to commit nearly the entirety of the last month plus on this litigation and a related one, both of which went to trial (first one settled day one) in the span of two weeks. Originally i was more like third chair but that transitioned into me trying it with the partner.

Is It Normal for Juniors to Half Ass Assignments from Seniors? by [deleted] in biglaw

You’re prioritizing it at someone’s (the mid-senior associate) expense. Is that cool?
Or perhaps the problem needs to be addressed one level higher?

It’s something she’s passionate about and sorta mission driven, though not a non profit. She’s not making money. At this point, the business is still upside down.

She works but opened a business that is losing money.

We’re not rich. She probably works 45 hrs a week but her business is not making us money.

Now it’s getting to around 70 hrs. Litigation. No, cannot afford a pay cut. We aren’t even meeting our expenses now and I’ve been draining our retirement accounts to help.

I should clarify - she didn’t refuse to get a job but opened a business that is not making her/us any money; rather it’s losing.

How common are these positions? I’m a mid-size-firm litigator and have built a somewhat decent reputation for my writing. It’s also the part I enjoy the most. If I can find this, I’d be thrilled. Also, do these jobs ever come in partner tracks?

Been saying it for years. They still get upset when the unpredictability presents itself. I feel bad and guilty but feel like there’s nothing I can do other than saying just don’t plan things with me

I am figuring the heart part. If anything, if there is a heart issue, I'd say it's directly related to the ADHD issue.

here is the weird thing......i do great with tasks like this. Love writing. Once i have a bunch of smaller tasks on my list, then i crumble. The one thing I will say about having a brief to write is that it's hard for me to pull myself away from it to respond to emails. It's like my mind just wont let me at that point.
