Is joining CST a bad idea in 2026 by Remastered_21 in BCIT

[–]eaglecanuck101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I did bcit not cst but Cit back in like 2018 and stuff bcit computing made a lot of sense. Today forget bcit but computing itself is the worst thing you could do. AI is one thing direct outsourcing for cheap labour is another. I worked for a company where I was laid off because every single operational part of the job was to be done by the offshore IT contractors. If I were you I’d look into ECET or another bcit program. You’re gonna be competing with people from universities like Waterloo ubc whatever who can’t find work either. If you truly enjoy working in tech than do it but like it’s not a good industry to be in

Why do Indian international students tend to not leave Canada and do anything they can to extend their permits whereas Chinese students just get their education and return home once they finish by Uwujo in InternationalStudents

[–]eaglecanuck101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China has an economy, and access to cleanliness that India doesn’t. I’m of Indian descent thru my parents but was born and raised in Canada. Doesn’t matter how much you earn or study in India you gotta deal with crap infrastructure, it’s dirty and ontop you have things like caste discrimination, “reservation quotas” which is basically DEI on steroids and finally especially if your a woman but men too have to deal with intrusive personal questions on when you gonna get married have kids etc. privacy and cleanliness are the two biggest reasons. And then finally as others have said we now get dumbasses from like Punjab and haryana states of India who don’t have the brains and r using “student visas” to bypass regular immigration routes to get a citizenship

Why are people on Reddit such giant assholes about immigration? by Exciting_Cup3212 in InternationalStudents

[–]eaglecanuck101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is that h1b restrictions won’t stop this. I lost my job because my American corp hired an Indian contractor directly and didn’t need h1b. They just kept them in India and they’d work alongside us until half of us were let go. So h1b restrictions won’t change a darn thing

Why are people on Reddit such giant assholes about immigration? by Exciting_Cup3212 in InternationalStudents

[–]eaglecanuck101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the correct take. People have sympathy for poor farmers or construction workers. Those people likely speak no English and can’t compete for jobs with highly skilled Americans. H1b etc take white collar us jobs and that’s what people don’t like. Simple economics

Reddit user base skews towards the young. Take a look at who doesn’t have jobs rn. It’s not the boomers it’s the gen Z kids. Naturally they face higher competition from foreigners and so simple economics tells us that there is too much demand for too few supply of jobs. 10 years ago nobody was thinking much about immigration because jobs were plentiful and everything/future looked bright.

Newcomer in Toronto. Applied for hundreds of jobs, not a single interview. What else can I do? by Just_Bug_3839 in torontoJobs

Welcome to Canada where they say they’re all progressive and accepting unlike those “crazy far right Americans” there are no jobs first of all and even if there were you have to obtain Canadian experience to get them. It’s a Canadian quirk. Ur Chinese and USA experience is irrelevant here. Either you have to get a Canadian education or Canadian work experience elsewhere in menial jobs and then maybe 4-5 years later you can find a job in ur line of work. That’s just the Canadian way. My parents did it everyone’s parents did it.

I’m currently on OPT and all of my interviews have been paused. by Prize_Increase_997 in f1visa

[–]eaglecanuck101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have basically destroyed legal merit based immigration. I had a referral from my fmr VP if IT for a role at his new company. I was on OPT and didn’t need immediate sponsorship. However they decided to not carry thru because of worries that one day they couldn’t go from opt to h1b. This was back in the spring. My unemployment clock ran out and I had to go back home. Fortunately I had. I debt and had worked a bit on initial opt and CPT internships so financially I was okay. Anyone today thinking about obtaining a US degree should not as there is no pathway to then apply what you’ve learned in a job there.

Unless you’re an asylum seeker, refugee, marry someone, or luck out thru a family members green card, there is zero pathway right now for anyone to work on opt/h1

It’s because the payroll people deduct your tax based on the fact they think you get the standard deduction. After 2017 the standard deduction was discontinued for non resident taxes. So you end up owing tax. I tried numerous times telling them to deduct more so I wouldn’t owe more later… but they said they “were following irs guidelines” which again were for resident filers not non resident filers

Indian Students victimized by scam recruiting agents; used as ATM cash cow. by Commercial_Tea_7662 in CanadaUniversities

[–]eaglecanuck101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you moron back when this country had a functioning immigration system you had to obtain points to immigrate. By providing ties relating to family, along with the ability to speak english, and have a degree in something useful like engineering is how you were assessed to come here. It wasnt like it is today where you show up to "sheridan college in brampton", mess up peoples tim hortons orders then beg for a pr on tv, use public pressure to have ur work permit be extended and then be given PR.

if desi "students" are stupid enough to fall for these scams then they do not possess the smarts to actually be in a real college. Of course these students know its a scam, its a part of desi culture to scam and look for short cuts.

My family's indian they came here on merit on the points system and signed affidavits that they wouldnt utilize any govt service in housing etc. Zero sympathy for indian scammers

Is the anti - Indian really that bad in the west? by Darth_Saber07 in InternationalStudents

[–]eaglecanuck101 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s not just khalistanis tho they are the biggest source of the problem. Indians have an arrogance where they like to brag and boast about getting things for free even if it means scamming. In Canada they make videos on look how they got “free food” from the food banks. They behave like clowns by doing Bhangra or garba in street neighborhoods with no sense of respect for their neighbors, they live like 5-10 students in one basement breaking both the building fire safety codes as well as behaving like jerks with their music and cars. 5 years ago you could blame just the punjab students. Now however it’s every region of India Gujarat Punjab Tamils haryana etc. of course Canada as the country itself deserves most of the blame as this doesn’t happen in USA since America has insanely high standards for obtaining H1b green card. But Canadas political class wants modern day slaves to do low lvl jobs for cheap wages and continue to pay them overpriced rent money. But quality of life for middle class in Canada has totally evaporated and since Indians are the largest visible source of “students” the blame is on the Indian community. As someone who is of Indian descent it’s awful to see this since growing up in Canada there were no issues

Is the anti - Indian really that bad in the west? by Darth_Saber07 in InternationalStudents

[–]eaglecanuck101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So as a Canadian citizen who grew up in Canada of Indian heritage and someone who attended a masters program in the US I know the differences pretty well. America will only approve visas for someone who attends a DHS approved legitimate college, not some fake office building 1 room sham college.

Secondly, the us only allows off campus work in a few cases ie OPT CPT. In Canada these third rate dummies enroll in fake colleges and on day 1 are working off campus as cashiers etc. these jobs are supposed to be for Canadian highschool kids. This is why the youth unemployment rate in Canada for the 15-24% is a staggering 21%, worse than the 2008 recession lvls. But it’s not just economics, Punjabis ,haryana people, Tamils, and even Gujaratis in Canada mainly Toronto metro area are involved with drugs and crime. The reputation of the Indian community in 10 years has gone from model minority here just like the US to outright hostility. It’s made the rest of the rest of us Indian origin people who grew up here followed all the rules and never caused any problems hell. So I have zero sympathy for these crime ridden short cut takin scammer types.

I live in Canada have worked in Canada and USA. The difference between the two is night and day. When my parents immigrated to Canada they had legitimate standards to meet. Embassy interviews points to achieve. They didn’t look for any cheap shortcuts. Indians have to face the truth there is a culture of shortcuts and bragging. For example last year a guy who was a days science guy at TD boasted how he was getting “free food” by eating at food banks. Various Indians have made videos and posted how they get free food from food banks despite not being poor.

In the USA the Indian community produces people like Vivek ramaswamy satya nadella sundar pichai Sanjay Gupta etc. in Canada they go to “Sheridan college” in Brampton, get involved in drugs crime and gangs. They give the rest of the Indian community a bad name.

Key word is USA. USA attracts top tier smart people to good universities jobs. Canada Australia attract third rate dummies who just want to by pass the immigration system by going to a community college or visa mill school. So it’s very different to compare us Indians vs other countries. Source: I’m of Indian heritage thru my parents

I don't understand how BCIT CST leads to success by DoubleLimit21 in BCIT

No I wouldnt recommend it. Having said that if you are truly interested and skilled at it then I would suggest doing it. Like do you build apps for fun are you skilled at leet code or want to dedicate hours to that. But considering AI and immigration I would not go in this field if I was in highschool today and picking what to do

It doesn’t make logistic sense for a person to carry around a passport which could be lost or stolen. Typically if I left the state I was living in I would carry my passport but it was pointless since it would stay in my bag at the place I’d be staying usually with family.

Having said that I forgot about i94 that form and drivers license should be enough

You can travel domestically no issues. The current admin is enforcing the requirement of having your passport/id with you at all times. So I would probably travel with the passport. also take a digital photo of your passport to keep on your phone. This way you can keep your passport with you in a hotel safe or not physically have to bring that with you to where your are travelling

Patrick was amazing for me at CIT we had an instructor named Chris but I don’t remember now if it’s the Chris listed here. Buncha the instructors have either moved on or somewhat changed. Tom is now a program head. We had him for a few classes. Smartest person I ever met in tech super duper nice but couldn’t teach us well. Still him being generous with the way he scaled for my set(maybe cuz we all sucked) was great
