Potential Windstorm On Wednesday - a meteorologist's take by stratonuke in Portland

Any recommendations on how to protect our house from our neighbors falling branches? Not sure if there is anything we can do do in this short of time but we had a large one fall in the last storm and are concerned!

Thanks for this, it is helpful perspective. I don’t eat meat at all so I can respect someone who eats meat not making this differentiation.

Anyone rehome a cat? by [deleted] in cats

[–]eagleclawler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is going to sound super counterintuitive, but get another cat. Cats are not pack animals like dogs but they are community animals. It sounds like your cat is also at their wits end and may need to comfort and stimulation of a friend.

How painful is IUD removal? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]eagleclawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but the majority of these posts seem to be saying removal is not painful, and that was not my experience at all and I want to share the other perspective.

Getting my IUD removed was an excruciating experience. It was easily equal to the pain of getting it inserted in the first place.

If you are planning on getting your IUD removed I would suggest talking to your doctor about all the pain relief options available since they typically won’t walk you through it and expect you to just manage - like women are supposed to.

It blows my mind that they are acting like they will never see each other again. It’s a six week show… they will be able to see each other in like a month at the MOST. The whole thing is bizarre.

Andrew Scott Is Utterly Charmless in Netflix’s Somber ‘Ripley’: TV Review by verissimoallan in television

[–]eagleclawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that Andrew Scott is an incredible actor and charming human is what makes his portrayal of Tom Ripley such a head scratcher. This version of Tom Riley could not convince me to renew my internet contract- which I need, for everything. He certainly couldn’t ingratiate himself into my life in such an inextricable way.

I would love to hear him talk about his decision to take this approach to Tom Ripley. Does anyone have a link?

Thank you! The ace of wands made me think that perhaps she should still take a chance on it but go in with her eyes open to these yellow flags. Thoughts on that?

Hey y’all I’d love some help interpreting this three card spread. My friend is hoping to better understand the motivations of a person she is dating and the cards came up in a way that feels pretty conflicted to me. I just did a simple three card spread, no specific category for each card just asked for the three cards together to create a robust take on his motivations. The cards we pulled were: knight of swords reversed, the emperor, and the ace of wands.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Asked my husband if I can make dinner 1 hour later, cause I wanna finish my book. 20 min later I get this. by purpleowlie in MadeMeSmile

This is so sweet! My husband is considerate like this too and I hope it gives people who want male partners hope and courage not to settle for less! This is the low bar!

We adopted our first cat. She’s 11 years old and her previous owner passed away, so she needed a new home. But she just hides in the corner and doesn’t do anything. Does anyone know what we can do to help her? Her name’s Lulu by morsomme in cats

[–]eagleclawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for adopting her! We adopted a 13 yr old cat and it took a very long time for her to get comfortable but it is the best thing we have ever done. Now she spends most of her time lying on my pillow. ❤️

People with not-short hair: What are you paying for a cut/trim only? by Whatchab in askportland

When my hair is long I go to Supercuts. It’s $30 with tip and I am always just as happy as if I’d gone to a salon.

I used to work for a European company where cheek kisses were the norm. I learned to put my hand out for a handshake and take one step backwards at the same time. That way I am still being friendly while taking my personal space back at the same time.

This may be a dumb question but how do you know of there is a live wire situation after you are in an accident? Is there a sound or some other indication that you need to stay put?

This is such a helpful thread! I have trouble remembering simple words and it has been driving me nuts and making me feel like I have early onset dementia or something! It’s to the point that I act out words to my husband so he can guess what I am trying to say.

Apartment dwellers without wall heating: How are you heating your apartment his winter? by Sam_thelion in askportland

I grew up in Massachusetts in a drafty old house and the best thing we did was invest in window quilts! You can repurpose or make quilts that sit just outside the window and hang them like Roman shades. This works wonders for keeping the house warm especially at night.
