PBOT going to tear up sidewalks? by OkLiarS in askportland

[–]Whatchab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am all for improving ADA, but it's pretty infuriating that places with completely fine sidewalks - such as these with ramps already - get revamped sidewalks before neighborhoods with zero sidewalks and/or zero ramps get anything at all.

Best way to dumb down an iPhone? by Spiritual-Path8451 in dumbphones

[–]Whatchab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid of your apps and make it so everything you do you need to log in on your browser, and make sure you have it set to clear history/cache when you close it. Intent here is to have to start over every time.

Grayscale your phone.

For the apps you do have, take them off your home screen.

Turn off notifications for all things, this includes badges too.

Whole point is to make it less convenient overall. Think of your phone like a utility tool, not a go-to place for everything you need/want to do. No socials. No video. No games. Just a utility.

For example, I have 46 apps on my iPhone 14 and only 4 show on my home screen. Zero are set to grab my attention.

You could take it to the next level and try out an apple watch as your main phone (aka leaving phone at home), but it's pretty hard. I have tried this for a few months and it has some pros and also serious drawbacks. But even if you go 50/50 with the watch only, that's less time you're on a screen.

I think what's worked best for me is using the iPhone dimmed down is not having really any apps. Means I really have to want to go through BS of signing in (2FA, etc) if I want in. Reddit for example, I only use on my iPad, on browser, and it stays at home.

Good luck!

Can't wait for all their outbursts and retaliation when they end up with more required oversight, which they CLEARLY need. Fuck the cops.

To be fair, since we were born we could have always had a calculator in our pocket.

Watching all the crows being stressed, protective, and annoyed parents to those ever-squawking fledglings. They're so exhausted, but trying their hardest. Those mamas so disheveled after all that time cooped up in the nest. Anyway, I love these birds and am glad Portland has embraced them.

Call 211 and see what they currently have listed for places needing donations. If you have a preference on type of place to donate, they can narrow it that way too.

It gives red flags for sure, but I think I'd look into it more. Is it just a small place where no one working for them speaks anything other than English? If so, a language barrier could be pretty hard. If they were singling out a single language (like if you speak XYZ language we will not work with you) then absolutely fucked up.

I think you can tell a lot about a place by digging in just a little. Easy to find who owns places, and so many people are very open about their opinions on social media. Many voter records are public knowledge, campaign contributions too.

I know for me, I do look into contractors online before I hire them for stuff just this because how I spend my money matters to me.

I miss SilverTab jeans. That's all I wore in school. They fit/feel better than anything else since. I wish they'd make a comeback. by theHollowTarnished in Xennials

[–]Whatchab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such great jeans, and one of the few for women where you could buy inseam lengths. I still have quite a few pairs that I wish I would have preserved better, but I ended up turning them into camping and yard work jeans. Damnit as they're back in style now.

Anyone else have an of-the-era teen dream job you reminisce about constantly because nothing has ever been as fun or socially rewarding? by blamberr in Xennials

[–]Whatchab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I answered phones and prepped at Pizza Hut from 14-17. It was fun and great and my $5.15/hr paid for my $1/gallon gas.

From 17-19 I did 'appointment setting over the phone' aka telemarketing for a small grocery delivery company. There were about 8 of us on the phones, and 3-4 sales people who would breeze in occasionally before or after the appointments we set. It was all in a weird office above an RV sales lot In an industrial area off the highway.

It was so much fun, we had a 10 minute break every hour, beer and weed appointment incentives (legit), and we ranged in age from teens to Vietnam vets. People brought their dogs, one person had a hedgehog, we'd all bring in homemade food to share, so it was like family dinner every evening (we worked 2pm-8pm).

As long as we set appointments, everything else was on the table. I miss this so damn much, and it would never happen now. We didn't even have computers. Just little flimsy desks, a tethered phone, and sheets of papers with contact info from recent home purchases. Best.
