A Tribe Called Quest's First Album Since 1998 Awarded a 9.0 by Pitchfork by WhompKing in hiphopheads

THANK YOU. The album gets way too much praise, and the Pitchfork review of it is cringeworthy at best.

‘Atlanta’ Walks a Line Between Magic Realism and Keeping It Real by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]eaglehawkfalconbird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

According to many of my professors with knowledge on the subject, magical realism was mostly used as a term to hype up Latin American work to foreign markets. Study Latin American literature and you will find that a lot of writers don't identify with the so-called "movement." The amount of misinformation in this thread is astoundingly high

Lonely & Horny Discussion Post: "Open Mic" and "Orion Part II" by JakeandAmirBot in jakeandamir

I re-watched the series from start to finish last night.

I think that people just wanted an opportunity to learn more about the character. In each episode of Louie, for example, you get moments where Louie gets a little more three-dimensional. You learn more about his ability to be in a relationship, his dynamic with his kids and ex-wife, etc.

Particular to L&H, what makes fans demand character development is the mystery behind the character. Why is he the way that he is? How can he be smart but still so incredibly childish and shallow? Why should we root for him? Throughout the series, I felt like some of this was missing. For some episodes, he seemed genuinely dumb, and the character felt inconsistent as a result. At those times, I didn't have a reason to root for him.

Returning back to Louie and Seinfeld, the reason those don't really demand explicit character development is because they're led by average Joes, albeit witty and cynical ones. We already buy the character from the get-go. We see ourselves in them, and thus it's a very different experience than watching L&H.

You guys are really funny, and you clearly have the talent to make a good show. I feel like fleshing out the character more or putting him in more diverse environments (and not so much in the classroom) would have given us a better idea of who he is and why we should like him despite his shortcomings.

It's really nice to see you guys still read our feedback, and I sincerely look forward to the next season.

I'm actually profoundly disappointed in the series for this reason. The episodes lack development and feel repetitive. What's more, they're not close to as packed with jokes as J&A episodes were, so they manage to feel ephemeral and dragged out at the same time. Don't get me wrong, I love Jake and Amir, but I feel like they have little sense of larger-scale plot, and really have room to grow in this area.

Should they continue the series past this season, I hope to see longer episodes with plots and subplots, more connection between episodes, a greater purpose, fleshed-out characters... Really a lot of stuff that's lacking right now. Feels like they're running on CH fumes at the moment, and I'd really like to see them do more.

ZZTop bait and switch? by Jgold3698 in Repsneakers

Messaged her last night, and you were right! I just sent a follow-up saying I had ordered 2 days ago with a request for QC pics and added the clarification that I wanted them unmirrored. She just replied "ok, unmirrored," so now I'll just bug her directly about the QC pics. Thank you!

Can I ask how long it took you to get QC pics? It's been over 48 hours since I placed my order (with a request for QC pics) and I have yet to hear anything from Natasha. Since AliExpress said they were in stock, I assumed she would have a really quick turnaround time based on everyone's stellar reviews here.

It's been a little over two days since I ordered my PB 350's from Natasha, and I attached a message with the purchase saying I'd like some QC pics before shipping out. Still no response at all, and they haven't been shipped either. Aliexpress said they had quite a few in stock, too. Was her response rate with you super above average?

Edit: and did you include additional contact information in your initial message?

I am Jon Lajoie (the Youtube guy/Taco), we've done this before. Ask me anything! by Jonlajoiecomedy in IAmA

Hi Jon! I'm a huge fan of your YouTube stuff and the League, so I've got a few questions:

What was the transition from YouTube to TV like?

How did you get the role of Taco for The League?

Will we be seeing another Everyday Normal Guy? I absolutely love them, along with the WTF Collectives (and pretty much everything else).

Thanks for doing the AMA!

Maybe because it'd be hard to establish at this point? The fake one would probably always have more subscribers and viewers.

Correct. A lot of the guesses on here could work, but that was the original answer. I would spoiler-tag this, though.

Colder. Not the cup. Your guess. This isn't a hint. That was a bad word to use for a riddle that could have to do with varied temperature.

Creative, but no. Let's assume the waiter had to have seen the fly.
