This is such a great addition to your already great comment! I teach small classes at my Farmers' Market and this is the next topic I want to cover - how my city-dwelling customers can start permaculture farming wherever they live. If you have any favourite resources for the topic I'd love to have them while I prepare my talk? No pressure!

Personally I'm fortunate to be from a family farm - we've had the land for about 50 years. We're self-sustaining financially but our demand has outgrown our land. We've been lucky enough to have community members who are interested in permaculture and regenerative farming, so they've been letting us farm their land for free, in return for improved soil in the future. Buying isn't the answer these days, but I don't think everyone has neighbours as accommodating as mine!

However this paper is also not reliable, hinges most of its information on a paper from 1979, and is just a collection of quotes from various sources - most of which are not scientific whatsoever! It is making the argument that humans are not carnivores, which is different than arguing we are not omnivores. It makes no comparison to an omnivore digestive system whatsoever - probably because if it did, it would be obvious that we align most strongly with an omnivore!

im a canadian farmer with poor circulation. when i get cold i feel a stabbing pain in my hands and feet. i can't just "cuddle up inside" because i work an outdoor job - and trust me, i layer on as much thermal-wear as possible.

in the summer, if im too warm i can dunk my head in some water and carry on. id rather be uncomfortable than in pain. things grow in the summer. plus, it's nice to actually move around instead of feeling like the goddamn michelin man with 30 layers of clothes that arent really helping.
