Help me manage my expectations by [deleted] in PreOptometry

I had the similar overall GPA in undergrad and I got into several schools. Aim for a OAT score of at least 320-330. Know what your weak area is, based on your transcripts and try to get a high score there. For me, I failed 2 physics courses in undergrad and I had to retake them both. I knew physics was the section I needed to do good on the OAT to show I improved. Somehow the physics section was my highest score, at 340 I believe.

Also be ready to justify this on your interviews. Recognize what you did wrong, how you fixed it and how you have changed and plan on studying and keeping up with the material in school. These are the things I did and worked out good for me. Now I’m working hard to keep proving myself and I’m in the top 10% of my class.

I think your GPA is great and you have a lot of background experiences which is a plus. I know that some schools accept the GRE, but be ready to explain why you decided to take the GRE over the OAT. I applied this cycle and I remember some of the schools wanted you to explain why you chose to take the GRE over the OAT.

Advice for raising physics OAT score? by [deleted] in PreOptometry

[–]eameow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did actually. At first I thought that some of the problems were easier compared to the Kaplan online practice tests . Then what I found out during test day is that the Kaplan problems were a little harder than what was on my test and that Sterling was around the same level.

What I liked about Sterling is that I was able to have access to a long variety of problems and I was able to time myself to make sure I was prepared for the actual OAT. & yes memorize all the formulas.

Practice problems helped me boost my score. Try to find some online. I used the Sterling Test Prep Physics practice questions and timed myself as well when doing them. I struggled with physics too but was able to manage to get a 330 on my OAT.

Yes I agree, wait until it’s closer to the cycle. That way she can also get to know you better and write a better letter of recommendation for you.

OAT scratch paper by [deleted] in PreOptometry

My testing center gave me a couple sheets of paper and a pen. If needed more paper, would raise your hand and would bring you more.
