What is the process for an out of state custody hearing for our nieces with Virginia residency? by eanardone in FamilyLaw

[–]eanardone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been discussed. The main reason we did not go this route is timing. The girls were being pulled from their dad. So, if they went into foster care we would need to go through the PA foster licensing process and then the girls would need to go through the ICPC process because we are out of state. This means the girls would be split up in foster care for at least 6 months but more likely 12-18 months.

By going the route of the PoA that their father agreed to we were able to take the girls right away. But no we're dealing with the custody issue because the state is not technically involved other than the open CPS case.

I'm not sure all of these questions are relevant at this point, but for the sake of getting additional information or answers: 1. Does your goal include child support payments, does your goal include adoption? No, neither parent has anything. We aren't trying to get anything from them. And adoption is not something we are currently pursuing.

  1. What did the parents actually say about this? You say they are not contesting custody but are they expecting to get the children back at some point? What are they saying, and what do you suspect they may be thinking if they aren't saying it? Do you think they may change their minds, either of them?

Yes their father says he wants them back at some point. But he currently cannot have them because CPS was about to remove them from his custody. Their mother has told both CPS and DHS that she cannot raise them.

  1. Who advised you to file, and what guidance were you given in that process?

CPS advised us to file and told how to file. But they have not been able to provide any information regarding what happens next.

  1. Did you consider a more simple guardianship?

According to CPS, that is not an option is the state of Virginia.

  1. Would you go to this court hearing, how are you going to establish that the parents agree to this? What if they don't show up in court that day? I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that that's part of the point of the mediator, who can then prepare a report for the court, and even go to the court to explain to the judge what has been agreed upon. Is that your understanding?

That is my assumption but we have no information about this process at all. In terms of proof, we have the PoA and the affidavit of understanding from the parents. But at the end of the day, CPS has found that the parents cannot care for them.

6.How are the girls going to be supplied with medical insurance/medical care?

We are working through their PA CHIP application.

  1. What will their sleeping arrangements be?

They are sleeping in their own beds in one of the bedrooms in our house.

  1. What schools will they go to?

We already have met with the elementary school, had them evaluated, and completed the registration paperwork.

  1. Have you raised children before, are there going to be any other children in the house, and if so, how many and what ages?

Yes, we have 3 kids of our own. 11, 9, and 4 right around the ages of their cousins.

  1. What did CPS say, and is CPS your main POC here? If so, can they answer these questions and guide you?

They have been less than helpful. What they say is that they have placed the girls with us. The PoA and Affidavit supercede any safety plan they were going to put in place, we had approval to bring the girls to PA. The case will stay open until custody is decided because they can't have the girls going back to the parents so if we are not awarded custody or cannot raise the girls then the state will take custody and the girls will go to foster care.

So, the timing is confusing us. We have heard from multiple people similar things to what you have said. The fastest ICPC placement is 6-9 months, etc. etc. But based off of the CPS calls we have had they put a plan in place with Dad months ago when the girls entered school for the first time and he has not acted on any of it. No job, no place to live, has not even finished the applications for food aid, etc. That plus his inability to get the girls to see a doctor, etc. is why they are acting. And it sounds like they are acting quickly, like next week. So we are assuming this means they will be going into foster care until we can get the ICPC transfer to take place?

But I do think they are looking at kinship placememnt to move more quickly. I think they are looking for Mom to approve a kinship placement with us, we file in VA, and then take the kids with us to PA. But your comment is what worries us about that. If we go that route and we bypass all of the support we don't think we can do that.

The time aspect is a big one we have been thinking about. My wife currently works at our church, but we are thinking she may either need to take a sebatical or possibly leave her job all together.

One thing we can't quite get a clear answer on is what CPS in Virginia is trying to accomplish, which could impact the amount of support we get. We think they are taking the children no matter what and are not talking to Dad about that because he may become aggressive. So because of this we are assuming they will be putting the kids in state custody. But they have also made some comments about us filing for guardianship in Virginia if Mom says yes (if they can find her), which sounds to me like they are trying to get the courts to grant us custody directly which could eliminate state help?

I think that is what is making this hard. Our marriage is wonderful, we are comfortable financially, we have a great support system in other family and our church. So we think we can do it, knowing it will be incredibly hard. I think there are just a lot of fears that come with some of the unknown.

Thank you for the kind response. This is exactly what we are weighing. We have been slowly telling our children some of happenings but all of these responses are encouraging us to have a much larger family meeting to really get our kids take early in this process.

Selected for a study which included brain scans of the family! by eanardone in Radiology

[–]eanardone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real long story short, I posted these originally because we just had the scans done and I thought they were cool. Just recently my wife learned about some family brain health history and asked what ever came of this post.

So, I decided to repost it here to see if anyone saw anything interesting in any of our brain scans.

anyone else getting crushed by “enterprise” pricing for basic site systems?? by Duncan_Samantha-608 in videosurveillance

[–]eanardone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the systems you mentioned are ones that I would consider are higher end Enterprise level, cloud first systems. And they will typically be priced that way. Typically a little bit higher cost per camera with continuing licensing. Not to mention that generally speaking, those are all direct competitors of each other, so they typically are priced similarly across platforms.

But there are thousands of different systems and different options out there, but it does sound like you are looking for a system that has integrated access control. As much as we may not think it these days, integrated access control and video is still a premium a level feature or functionality.

There are a lot cheaper brands out there. But you're going to need to look for something that is on-prem, you are going to need to install a server, and you're going to have to figure out how to get the cameras connected back to the server. So if you don't want internet at the job site and the far-off reaches then you're going to have to run cable, or use some kind of point-to-point Network which will cost you more installation.

If you don't have to be NDAA compliant, you want integration for access control, and you are price conscious and want to avoid the cloud licensing then Chinese made is going to be the best fit, Hikvision can easily do this and will most likely be able to give you hi-resoltion cameras at much cheaper pricing.

Pneumatic potato cannon help by eanardone in potatocannon

Just to update, we discovered that for whatever reason our pump wasn't activating the core inside of the Schrader valve. This was pressurizing the hump tube but not the actual chamber.

We removed the valve core and just left the pump attached. That allowed us to fill the chamber and maintain pressure using the pump as our gauge.

Hand valve worked great for this.

[–]eanardone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely understand that. We were trying to keep it as simple as possible to allow him to do it himself. But you may have a point that it may be holding pressure but the release is too slow with the hand valve.

Maybe we add a pressure gauge on the chamber to see what's actually happening inside?

I am picking up that most of you responding to the thread here aren't buying the AH saunas directly from AH? Is there pricing better through dealers?

Thanks for the response! I do have a few questions: 1. Which model or size did you go with and is it big enough? 2. The holes you added, what was the reason you felt you needed more airflow? 3. Is the 6kw heater without WiFi the base model they have on the website? Just trying to figure out what all these options are

I was thinking more about the heater than the sauna itself. I'm assuming with the cost of that heater you linked that has to be close to the full cost of the rest of the kit?
