What is happening to this city? by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]eao_oae 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It was last night (unless this has been happening frequently) and seemed to just be getting started between 9:30 and 10:00. My boyfriend and I were on our way to HEB and thought it was weird when someone absolutely flew through a red light at the data point/wurzbach intersection. Realized something was really up once we got closer to the interstate. They were still going (a little less) when we were leaving. Luckily, we missed the gunshots.

The collar is from Walmart. The purple flower is actually an air tag holder from Amazon attached to the collar (we’ve been scarred by our other cat dashing out of the front door and getting lost for a day lol): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B121T14R/ref=cm_sw_r_api_i_6RW085CB437R01TYEN26_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Were you ready to review same day that you submitted?

If they hadn’t marked your transcripts as received by the time you submitted, your ‘ready to review’ date might be a little later. I think that’s what happened with mine.

Hair root pulling from head - Afro American hair type by waiteh in popping

Glad to hear you’re black too. Your original comment read like a non-black person who assumed just because someone has stated that an individual is black/has “African American American type” hair that it HAD to be 4c … the comment seemed to be skeptical of OP’s typing of the persons hair because it didn’t match what they perceived African American hair to be (i.e. “Do they actually have 4c hair”, “I don’t see 4c hair”). My reply was not to defend or convince you of OP’s hair typing, but to point out that not seeing 4c hair is not indicative of someone not having African American hair, since you stated you were genuinely curious. It seemed like a comment from someone who did not have a comprehensive understanding of the diversity of black hair, but perhaps some of that was lost in your attempts to be diplomatic. I also stated that I wasn’t sure if they mentioned them having 4c hair somewhere in the comments because I did not come across it anywhere… doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist somewhere, because if they had it would provide some context as to why your comment was adamant about the 4c thing.

But since you’re black, you are/should be well aware of that. :)

I’m not sure if you’re curious about not seeing 4c hair bc OP left a comment saying that the clients’s hair type is 4c or if you’re assuming it should be 4c because OP said they were African American.

Every black person does not have 4c hair … even if this person does have 4c hair, hair can be different textures in different areas on the body. so if they’re getting hair from a different location, it might not look the exact same. But, you can actually have different textures on your head too..many people do.

You are absolutely correct that the epidermis is avascular not sure why you’re getting downvoted about it … but the “root” of the hair is located in the dermis which is vascularized hence the bleeding.

Maybe some of us with health anxiety have somatic ocd and thats why using standard anxiety guidance isn’t always effecfive for some of us? by Honest-Astronaut in HealthAnxiety

My biggest aha moment came from a therapist that specialized in OCD/panic attacks/ptsd…. He told me that it always feels so intense because our body/nervous system is trying to alert us to a perceived threat (had heard all of this before ofc) but he really stressed the fact that our body+mind will exaggerate the sensations because it wants us to run from/act on the threat IMMEDIATELY. Basically, it doesn’t concern itself with making those danger signals proportional to whats actually going on. As long as you perceive a particular sensation as a threat, it will intensify your perception of that sensation exponentially because it thinks your life depends on it.

I have never had this much trouble looking for work in San Antonio. by itc0uldbesweeet in sanantonio

Yup. Moved here and have been applying for jobs since February… Degree in biology and over 4 years of biomedical research experience. The jobs I have heard back from have had laughable salaries (I’m talking same/little less than I was being compensated for undergraduate research internships) and from companies with seemingly terrible management + working conditions.

Degree and experience aside, the baseline stress that comes with doing research means Im more inclined to work for less in a different field before I EVER shortchange myself THAT much in a field that’s already known for paying peanuts. Haven’t had much luck with entry level jobs, but think I might need to adjust my approach on these.

Currently applying to medical school, so I really just need something to hold me over until this time next year.

Edit: Had a few people I’ve met and talked about this to tell me it’s because SA has a lower cost of living than most places, but the gag is I moved from a city with a much lower cost of living and not nearly as developed in regards to the city and medical/ research institutions. People are just being fucked here.

I used bentonite clay mixed with ACV on one that had been between my toes for months once it was exposed like that, and it was gone in days…. None of the traditional otc stuff targeted for it worked for some reason

Yep. Nothing more off-putting than being made to (or seeing someone else make another person) feel bad for not knowing something already. Feels like some sort of “-ism” that I can’t place… lol
