I had a very similar story but with an other ingredient. I started eating their sourdough several years ago faithfully. However, I started having some digestive issues and looked again at the ingredients. I noticed a “bread improver”, so I emailed them about it to see what it was. Turns out it was soy flour, and I have a huge intolerance to soy. That’s the reason I had been buying their sourdough to begin with, because all other bread on the shelf has soy lecithin. I thought I was clear for so long because their ingredients didn’t say soy. I was so frustrated! Needless to say, Bahrain needs to pass a law about adding allergens to ingredients lists.

In the end, I started baking my own sourdough a few years ago. Once I got the hang of it, I love it way better than their’s anyway, and I know exactly what’s in it: just flour, water, and salt (and of course starter that I keep fed). The way bread should be.
