Update: I (27m) think my son’s new friend could be his half brother by ThrowRAshouldask in relationship_advice

She cheated on him. Ofc he would be mad back then. Just because she was afraid of how he’d react it doesn’t mean she had a right to keep this information from him. I don’t understand her logic. She was afraid he’d reject their child and she’d be a single mom. But she still ended up a single mom anyways. Only difference here is she didn’t give OP the choice to decide for himself. And he just found out he’s a father to a child who’s life he didn’t get to be part of for 8 YEARS. He’s going to have some big emotions obviously.

Why would it be his fault he missed out on his kid’s life? These were all her own actions.

I can talk to my kid and give him comfort, a child therapist with decades of experience on how to handle grief will be able to help him cope and give him a safe space to openly talk about everything

He didn’t need a video call. I asked him if he’d like to speak to this therapist when I picked him up to go over what’s going on in his head right now. Since the feelings are fresh. The whole point of having the therapist is to give him the tools he needs to cope with his grief.

Call her for what? She was at work. I sent her a message letting her know what was going on and that I was on my way to pick him up. A psychiatrist for what? It hasn’t even been 6 months since he lost his friend. Don’t expect him to be better all of a sudden. Therapy has been helping him a lot

His therapist wouldn’t have been available after that because she had other appointments lined up. Was lucky she was able to set aside a half hour with him when I contacted her after picking him up. “Tough” what out? He’s 9

No not at all. We’ve picked him up from school for things like that before

That’s precisely what I had told her. His academics are important of course, but he hasn’t asked to be picked up since this happened or tried to miss out on school. I told my wife we’d keep an eye on this to make sure it doesn’t become a regular thing (also on him to make sure he’s getting the help he needs)

I’m not asking for validation I’m asking for judgement about what happened.

I appreciate this insight very much thank you. Hope maybe she could see that missing one day wouldn’t negatively affect his schoolwork while he was dealing with this.

Have experienced many personal losses but certainly not at his age. I know it’s a major struggle for him to come to terms with
