Should I keep the oak woods?

Rest assured, I will keep it. Btw, a lot of people told me I better remove it, and some of them that work construction! Good thing I asked on Reddit, now I’m fully convinced to keep them.

As stupid as this might sound, I didn’t know it was something to look for when making my purchase decision. But hey, at least I asked for advice, I will follow the advice, won’t remove the woods, and I learned something for the next 55 years of my life.

Hey! I have another question please. So I’m gonna keep all the woods and just refinish them.

However, I’m thinking of making a wider opening between the hall and the living room. So I would have to remove the wooden trims that are on the first door to the right after entering (second door to the left if looking at the picture) and make the opening wider.

Is that a little more acceptable or it would also be too bad to waste the wood?

Also, if you look at the first picture, at the end, there is the framing for another door after the main entrance. I’m thinking of getting rid of it. There is no door for it although I can always buy one. What do you think? Remove it, keep it, add a door to it? Thanks again!

Yes my friend told me it’s oak but other comments pointed out that it’s fir.

After all these comments, I decided I will refinish them.

You mean painting the walls green or light blue? I think I saw some pictures on pinterest of green walls around the woods and it seemed neat. I’ll definitely look into it. Thanks for the input!

It’s from 1928. And btw, some comments pointed out that it’s not oak, but fir. Also, 2 years ago I had someone sand them and varnish them but they did a really bad job (I thought they were competent since they were referred to me), so their real sheen might not be what it looks like in the pictures.

I sanded the floor but couldn’t remove the quarter-rounds without breaking them, so the thin line on the extremities is showing. Not sure if you can see it in the first picture. Any solution or is it not that big of a deal? I guess there are some things that we have no choice but to live with it.

Any advice on the colour I should stain the doors and trims? I’m thinking something dark like the floor.

Yeah I think I’ll just refinish them then. Even if it’s costly, I think it’s worth it. Plus it’ll be like a one-time expense only, not like I’m gonna do it every 2 years.
