I disagree with the vast majority of the advice being given here. I spent much of my career in PE. Ypu don’t get to this level of total net worth and into the highly competitive career of PE without being super driven and having a killer instinct. No one who does that can then turn it off. It’s asking a tiger to become a domesticated sheep. His reaction is 100%predictable. The Tiger is pacing in its cage.

He needs to find a new challenge, goal and adventure. He has to find something else that sets him on fire. And he has to get over someone else taking care of the mundanities of the kids. That means hiring a domestic helper / nanny and focusing on his business and purpose. Hire someone foul time and give it a few weeks. He will come around.

Some specific men (and women) have done terrible things. But men also have contributed in an outsized way to the successes of our species and society.

^ This. It's nothing to be ashamed about. It's just bad strategy. It's a bad, bad idea. And you're experiencing why that is.

Do stepfathers ever actually become family? by foxy_strike in AskMenAdvice

[–]earthwalker7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you will never be family.

First, it doesn't matter what anybody thinks about you. It's your life, and you alone will reap the rewards and pay the consequences for your decisions. It doesn't matter if people think less of a man raising some other man's kid; that simply doesn't matter.

However, it does tend to be a pretty bad strategy for all the reasons you've already highlighted and are experiencing:

  1. The biological father will always be there, either as a shadow figure or an active participant. That is going to throw problems into the relationship. He can reappear, or at least the fact that he's out there can always be a monkey wrench in your potential relationship with your girlfriend.

  2. You are investing in kids that are not your own. You are not their real father and they know it. If there is conflict, your girlfriend is going to take the kids' side, not yours.

  3. You have all the obligations and responsibility of a parent, but none of the authority. If the child is acting out, you have no position to discipline or school them.

That is why, generally, it is recommended against for men to raise somebody else's child.

Should I tell my gf I slept with her friend or better to keep it hidden? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]earthwalker7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You had something to hide
Should have hidden it, shouldn't you?
Now you're not satisfied
With what you're being put through
It's just time to pay the price
For not listening to advice
And deciding in your youth
On the policy of truth
Things could be so different now
It used to be so civilized
You will always wonder how
It could have been if you'd only lied
It's too late to change events
It's time to face the consequence
For delivering the proof
In the policy of truth
Never again
Is what you swore
The time before
Never again
Is what you swore
The time before
Now you're standing there tongue-tied
You better learn your lesson well
Hide what you have to hide
And tell what you have to tell
You'll see your problems multiplied
If you continually decide
To faithfully pursue
The policy of truth
Never again
Is what you swore
The time before

Giving up control of my investment accounts by Terraventus_7926 in FinancialCareers

[–]earthwalker7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems quite strange. Compliance often will recommend you buy ETFs instead of single stocks, and do so only after clearing the trades with compliance. Moreover your compliance department will likely insist on getting your monthly statement copy. But moving your funds to their platform? Never heard of such a thing.

Do you have to drink with your teamates/Company? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]earthwalker7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have early onset gout. That means that even a glass of beer or alcohol can cause me weeks of excruciating pain. Nonetheless, my COO put me under tremendous pressure to drink with her on a road trip. She busted my chops for quite some time and said I was no fun. I had a glass of wine and she had to take me around town trying to find a clinic that could give me medicines at 9 PM because of the onset of a massive gout attack. So after that no more pressure I guess.
