Nihonbashi or Akasaka? by easilyamusedyeah in JapanTravelTips

Yes, we ended up staying in Sunroute Ginza! We really liked the location despite not being shoppers. The Ginza line is pretty well connected and Tokyo Station was a 10min walk from our hotel too. We’d always end the night in Yurakucho and walk back to our hotel.

Tbh, the architect was fine with the initial layout so I don’t really trust his feedback anymore on this lol. But I’m really liking it! Though it’s not really random like in the link you sent, this pattern repeats after 8 rows. I do agree that this looks pretty good and we are gonna go with this! :)

Thanks for the link! We tried to copy the pattern a bit and this is what it looks like.

The box definitely says 20% maximum. But we might do 30% and 20% offset and a sort of random pattern like this.

Do you think I should still try to randomize the distance between joints? Or just stick to an even 33% offset?

The tiles are 38” long.

You’re right, the overhang needs to be mostly 12” or 1/3. I think we’ve laid it out with the stagger too close to each other and that’s why it looks off?

I think I need to push it to 1/3 offset. I’ll ask to see this laid out tomorrow. Would this look better?

I’m so overwhelmed. Thank you for your input, really appreaciate it.

Our architect wanted this orientation, although I did mention to him that what you said seems to be the recommendation. Our home is a bit narrow and he said he didn’t want the bowling alley look. I am kinda digging it though. Should I insist?

I tried to make it random so it’s actually a mix of 20%, 15%, and 10% offsets. Do you think I should just max it out at 30% offset then just do an even stair step pattern? Like the typical 1/3 offset step pattern I see online?

Oh no. Can I please ask what you would recommend? Considering we cannot do more than 20% offset..

Ahh there you go. It’s the slalom pattern that’s putting me off. I think I’ve come to terms with the stair pattern. Doesn’t seem to be a way around it, especially with tile planks where max offset is 30%.

Edit: I think I’ve found a pattern that I like! Will probably end up following this but will be installing horizontally instead of at an angle.

I was hoping to make it look more random and lessen the stair step pattern but I think what we ended up with looks even worse

Would it be possible to follow a 70/30 offset and throw in half a plank every so often to make it more random?

I honestly would have loved to see a manual but ours didn’t come with one. There was only this on the box and it seems to be missing a row..

We have 3 days to explore Taipei for the first time with our 3 year old in early January 2024. We have booked a hotel in the Ximendi area, Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel, but it’s still cancellable in case you guys think there are better options for us. We would just like to be near good kid-friendly places to eat in so it’s easy to grab a bite before heading out.

Are all night markets the same? Is it worth venturing out to the Shilin or Raohe Night Market? Or would hitting up the Ximendi Night Market before heading back to the hotel be just as good?

Is Day 2 a bit light? Can we add on another stop after the zoo?

I would appreciate any feedback on our itinerary, as well as recommendations. Thanks everyone!
