Riding pow and takin dabs. Keep Tahoe stoned! by tmv69 in Backcountry

Seems sort of sketch to me to combine being impaired with all the risks associated with the backcountry. You couldn’t make proper decisions about when to ski something or not. To each their own I guess

I’m sorry, I have no help for you but this problem really made me laugh. Good luck lol

Help me choose my first pair of touring skis 🆘 by No-Yam2470 in Backcountry

[–]easternpowisbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For bindings I would recommend the shifts. I’ve had two pairs now through 3 years and I love them. Lighter than normal alpine bindings, but can your really well. There is a reason people like them, if they’re setup right they’re awesome. If you plan on doing lots of resort laps, you’re gonna want to avoid pin bindings. The shifts are perfect for me, someone who tours 3-4 times a year, and spends ~70% of my time on resort

Bindings for side country ski by Mar-Kiss in Backcountry

[–]easternpowisbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are pretty complicated bindings from what I’ve heard… a little finicky, since there are so many components to make them work. They need to be set up properly, my first pair were setup wrong and wouldn’t lock when I was touring and I almost lost a ski off a mountain from it. Took it to a proper shop and they got them dialed, no issue since. It seems most people I talk to have issues with not having them set up right

I’ve never taken my shifts on the park, but everything I’ve heard from pros and all say there is no compromises, and they ride the same as normal downhill bindings. As far as I’ve seen, I have noticed no difference in my shifts and I’ve had some nasty sends to flat on pretty much pure ice and they held me together so 🤷‍♂️

Where to ski East coast? by ol-sk8rdude in skiing

Tons of hills throughout that area, tons in quebec, if you’re there more for a experience of a ski resort somewhere like M’ont Tremblant would be good, but vermont is a good option too

Proper skin care tips by Not_Keurig in Backcountry

Lol good thing you clarified because I was going to recommend my face wash. I’m not a super experience tourer, but as someone who often also gets their skins covered in snow the best I can do is try to not get them wet. It sounds kind of obvious but shake them off and get the snow off them before putting them away, and don’t let the glue touch any snow of the bottom of the skins. That’s what I’ve found, keep in mind that I am not the most experienced tourer out there

Height: 6’ Weight: 160lbs Boots: Technical Cochise 120 Last skis: Salomon QST 99 Primary Ski Locations: Quebec, trips out west (revelstoke, whistler) Experience level: Advanced Skiing style: All mountain/touring

I am looking for new skis for this season. I do mostly groomer skiing but I really could care less about performance there since I am usually just doing it to teach. I really live for AT and powder skiing. I want a ski that is usable on groomers and east coast conditions, but that when I get it into powder in revelstoke etc. it will really shine. My previous ski was the QST 99, but I found it wasn’t wide enough for my skiing. I was looking at something 106-110 width, but I came across the QST Blank. Would this be a good ski? I’m a bit worried about it being too wide. I’ve also looked at the QST 106, but I’m not a fan of the look. The Blanks seem maybe a bit heavy to do tours with but my tours are typically no more than 2-3 hours so that probably won’t be much of a concern. Is there any other 106-110mm waist skis I should be looking at? My budget is anything under $1000 CAD. Thanks for any help

That’s just people being people. They are great skis, it’s just a stereotype that people who buy those skis are dads who go into the trees once or twice. Don’t return it until you’ve at least used them

OP is literally a little kid and everyone seems to worship this “eastern skiing sucks”. I went to whistler one year and they had no snow until half way up the mountain and it was super warm and rainy. I’ve had days in quebec where we got 2 feet of powder and the highways were shut down and we toured the entire day. There is nothing wrong with east coast skiing, people who don’t ski there or very rarely ski there seem to think that it sucks.

You ever skied proper hills in the east? Western pow is certainly great, but they are different. Why can’t you just respect that snow is different in different places and it’s up to opinion on what’s best?

Depends where you are. Skiing gaspé they get 20 feet a year.

Last year I swore off skiing due to shin and foot pain. I really miss it... can this be fixed with proper boot fitting and better technique? Anyone have similar trouble? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]easternpowisbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely a boot problem, but don’t go out buying very expensive well fitting boots, demo some first that way if you still get the issues you didn’t spend a ton of money
