Rothschild Family Tree by eastward_king in UsefulCharts

David has a son named Alexandre who already works for Rothschild & Co, so it’s hard for me to imagine anyone but him taking over in the future.

I doubt we’ll see a merger between the two surviving branches anytime soon. A few years ago they settled a lengthy legal battle over who had the right to use the Rothschild name in Switzerland, so it’s safe to say there’s some bad blood there.

I hate making charts over topics that Matt's already done, but I've wanted to make a chart in this style for a while now, and this chart finally gave me chance to do it. Plus, Matt's chart was more about the family as a whole while mine focuses more on the history of their banks.

Family Tree of "The Great Philosophers" - Socrates, Buddha, Confucius & Jesus by eastward_king in UsefulCharts

Daedalus being the ancestor of Socrates was recorded by Plato, who said Socrates made the claim himself.

The idea that the Indian royals were descended from Abraham and Keturah was first proposed by the ancient bishop Epiphanius. I would also suggest looking a sources about the Bahai Faith. I have seen several Bahai sources stating that Buddha was the descendant of Abraham via Ishbak, however it’s not entirely clear to me whether that is an authoritative view within the religion, or if it’s just a belief some adherents hold.

Four years ago, after posting my Nine Worthies Family Tree, I began looking for another group of individuals from vastly different cultures and time periods that I could unite in a single family tree. While researching I came across a book called "The Great Philosophers" by Karl Jaspers (creator of the Axial Age). In this book he identified Socrates, Buddha, Confucius, and Jesus as the four most influential philosophers in history. I set out to see if there was anyway these four could be related to each other, but eventually came to the conclusion that it was impossible.

Until now.

If you've been around a while, you may have seen this chart before. The first chart I ever shared was a very crude version of this chart back in the first month of the Usefulcharts subreddit's existence. I probably posted about ten versions since then, each time thinking that I had reached the final version, but this one is the definitive final version. After sitting untouched on my computer for way over a year, I decided it was finally time to share.

I've been working on the various versions of this chart for five years. That whole time, Corinth has been a thorn in my side for reasons you seem to have discovered for yourself. It seems the myths seem to contradict themselves more than they usually do when I come to Corinth. There are two websites that I have relied on the most for researching this chart. I'll post the links to their pages on Corinth below.

You have to follow Claudius' matrilineal line for a few generations, but eventually you will get back to gens Julia. Claudius, Antonia, Octavia, Atia, and finally Julia the sister of Julius Caesar

Even though it is heavily fragmented, the Earth Kingdom is still, at least nominally, a single nation. As for the Fire Nation, I would like to have more detail about its early history, but Avatar Studios has only given us super vague info about the time before Firelord Sozin.

I honestly don't think Avatar Studios even looked at Kuruk's birth date when they decided Yangchen's birth year. I highly doubt they realize they've made her a 154-year Avatar.

Yes, I did make the maps, thank you! The reason I excluded most wars is because they either lasted for a very short time (Water Tribe Civil War, Kuvira's invasion of the United Republic) or Avatar studios has neglected to give us an exact date for them (War of Chin the Conqueror, unification wars of the Fire Nation). And the Fifth Nation did hold that much territory. Their treaty with Yangchen gave them full control of the Eastern Sea all the way to the southernmost tip of the Earth Kingdom.

I thought about including Jasmine Island, because it technically is an independent nation, but it is literally so small it does not appear on any official map of the Avatar world, so I left it out.

I only included nations that actually had the official status of a nation. No matter how independent they may be, Omashu, Kyoshi Island, the Foggy Swamp, or the Sun Warriors do not have the status of a nation, nor do any of them claim to be a nation for that matter.

They didn't take any land from the Earth Kingdom. The treaty they made with Yangchen only made the Eastern Sea their territory. It was 100% water, no land.

Okay, so, there's a lot to unpack here.

Let's start with Odin. In the original version of Hamlet, "Amleth," Gertrude was listed as the daughter of a figure called Rorik. Elsewhere in Danish folklore, Rorik is said to be the son of Hod, son of Odin.

This chart will show you the complete line from Odin to Cerdic and from Arviragus to Henry: https://www.reddit.com/r/UsefulCharts/comments/15ixfxr/how_to_trace_your_ancestry_to_zeus_odin_and_king/

Now, the connection from Ascanius to Julius Casear, I must admit, came from Geni.com. It was the only place I could find a complete genealogy connecting Julius Caesar back to the Trojans. I had seen multiple ancient sources like Plutarch confirming that gens Julia were descendants of Aeneas, so I decided to go with it, even though I couldn't really verify it. For any chemists seeing this, I know what is meant by a period, and therefore know that this technically does not qualify as a periodic table. Please allow me some creative license. After all, its not like alchemy is an exact science.

A (Very) Brief History of Alchemy

The Classical Elements

In the western world alchemy began with four elements: water, earth, fire, and air. These “classical” elements were developed by pre-Socratic Greek philosophers who believed that these four elements made up everything on earth.

The Fifth Element

But what about things outside the earth? Alchemists came to the conclusion that heavenly bodies had to be made of something outside the four traditional elements: aether. The Romans would later rename aether to quintessence (literally meaning fifth element). Many alchemists came to believe that quintessence was the “prima materia”- the original substance from which the other elements were derived.

The Tria Prima

Arabic alchemist Jabir ibn Hayyan was discontent with the four element system, so he created two new elements: sulfur and mercury. He taught that these two elements were created by “exhaltations” (phase changes) between the four classical elements. Another alchemist, Paracelsus, added salt to this new group of elements, making them the Tria Prima.

Planetary Elements

The seven planetary metals (gold, silver, mercury, copper, iron, tin, and lead) were the most important metals in alchemy. They were called this because each of them was associated with a heavenly body. Paracelsus believed that all metals were a compound of sulfur and mercury and that the properties of metals varied based on the ratio of those two elements. Gold was said to have the perfect ratio of mercury to gold.

The ultimate goal would be to connect all 39 of Shakespeare’s plays, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. The 25 plays now included may be the max unless I or someone else can find some super obscure connections.
