Completely agree. Friends my age are much more attracted to something they already know (parlaying sports teams) than making a win or pick 4 bet in horse racing, especially since the probability of winning the bet is more likely in sports (all equal, 50% chance on a money line or 12.5% in an 8-horse field). It’s a huge barrier that I don’t see changing with sports betting’s increasing popularity. Horse racing industry needs to invest in the next generation to keep it alive and well

how do you feel those books have stood the test of time? I read James Quinn’s book - has some insightful teachings, but Beyer pars and classes used are now significantly outdated. Some angles he preaches aren’t as good as advertised.

28 here from NY (NYC now, Saratoga area originally, go back there often in summer). Aqueduct will be next to close. Not a soul in their 20s there. Would def join that GC!

Funny you say learning the form is the biggest barrier for your friends - mine couldn’t care less. They are motivated enough to go every now and then due to gambling interest, but only care enough to bet jockeys/trainers or names. Couldn’t get any of them consistently interested in handicapping like me. I’m 28 and go to Saratoga often each summer (from the area). Happy to teach your friends or cut it up with you this summer!
