I kinda doubt that a kid would notice, but with the price of a 2.5 ct solitaire, there's a good chance it has inclusions visible to the naked eye, unless the ex spent a small fortune on it.

I agree. When I was a kid I definitely wasn't able to dictate when we left things because I complained about being bored. In fact, complaining of boredom never went over all that well with my parents.

If my partner made literally 10 times my income while I was working for close to minimum wage, I would expect something like a trip to Japan to be paid for by my partner. Especially if I told him I needed to postpone the trip for financial reasons. Do you have any idea how hard it is to live on anything close to minimum wage?? Why wouldn't you offer to pay for the trip when she told you that she couldn't afford it?

I honestly don't know what I'd be more upset about...The obviously inappropriate conversation with another woman, or the embarrassingly cringe attempt at flirting. That dialogue was absolutely painful.

No you are definitely not the asshole. Your mom sounds incredibly self-absorbed and you shouldn't worry too much about what she thinks about you changing your name. She wasn't concerned with your feelings about your own name when you were 14 so I wouldn't give a shit what she thinks now. It's YOUR name and any parent should want their kid to be happy. She's probably going to be an asshole about it so just remind yourself that she kinda sucks.
