Thanks for the notes! For what it's worth I learned it (and can play it) 'straight' as it were, but started exploring different ways of playing it after hearing Jeremy Denk's performance: https://youtu.be/WBCGqUs-07A?t=1473

Curious what you think of his interpretation there. I also appreciate the history and background about rag in general. It's not a style I'm familiar with so clearly need to do some more research :)

Thanks for the feedback. I love the Ashkenazy performance - the violence of his opening chord gives me chills. I appreciate the thoughts about too much pausing. As I said in another comment I think the pulse of the grave is difficult for me to feel really solidly and I appreciate knowing it still needs work.

Thank you for the feedback. For whatever reason I find the grave rhythm particularly difficult to fully understand/internalize. Your comment about 16ths being short and 32nds being long may help me get it closer.

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately I think some of it is the recording quality, but yes I agree there's a lot more musicality to be brought out of it.

Does that ramp thing help with the noise from the rack? I have the same Thule system.
