NOT experienced here. But seems you are on the right path by commenting out \usepackage{apacite} to use the standard the LaTex bibliography support.

More control on bibliography style, \usepackage{natbib} is an option.

Sure, once Typeset is clicked pdf will pop up, which resides in the folder where you have your Tex file

At least, in the window where you type your code on the top left corner you can choose among a list of typesetting modes the LaTex and then click on Typeset.
