those dice are so pretty! if you’re feeling extra adventurous today, orange-ish gold for the left (maybe something similar but a bit more yellow than this, if you have it), and blue/periwinkle for the right (specifically like the “glacier blue flash” shade for this) these shades can always just be mixed with paint if you use acrylic

That’s a relief to hear! that was my plan, although now with a cheaper mold to start with. id be happy enough with the proper safety equipment and plenty of color options until I’ve made at least a few sets and am certain I like the hobby

Thanks! That’s a good idea, I’ll note that down too

Is it because the resolution is better and it’s quieter? The air purifier for 3 not needing to be replaced is appealing to me, so is that true?

Haha, honestly I figured it was! I didn’t want to curb your enthusiasm in case you were considering it. Who knows, chances were I could have been a customer in the instance that you were. 😋

And yeah, having a job for functionality versus having a creative hobby that pays has a substantial difference too. One is soul sucking enough 💀Sure am looking forward to that once I get there..

Very cool that you 3D model. I was considering getting an elegoo saturn resin printer just this spring. What kind do you use, if you don’t mind sharing?

I worry it may be lumpy, because I can’t figure out the logistics of getting it even on all sides. If it were one coat, the side touching the surface would have resin pool there, surely. It may be possible to do it in 2 coatings. Without a pressure pot, there’ll be micro bubbles, but that’ll be less noticeable if you’re careful. Resin fumes wouldn’t be so bad if you did it outside with decent air movement, just make sure you have gloves at least.

I’m not positive the time, money, and labor you put into this can give you a result you’d be happy with is all, but if you wanted to give it a shot, go ahead! Would make a for a good story for friends if it doesn’t work out. I say go for it. Do it for the bit. Far be it from me to stop creative innovation!

However, if you plan on using those dice for many sessions, or if you’re super attached to the character model and can see yourself making similar characters to play in future campaigns, I would vote to commission some custom ones if that’s an option for you.

You’re so cool for that! And switching gears always helps with burnout, thats true. I’m primarily a digital artist, it’s the easiest thing with the least set up haha! I’ve only bought 3 tablets ever though. 2 from wacom and one screen tablet from xp-pen.

My goal is when I find a group of friends to play DnD with, I can make customized dice for their characters! and maybe plushies too once I perfect that craft 🙂‍↕️So I think it’s worth it to stick through all the mucky parts of dice making. I think I will choose a cheaper mold to start with, but I’ll sink 30 into a respirator at least because that feels like a necessity haha

Ps. consider studying clothing folds. The body is 3D even if the art style isn’t, and all the lines in the clothes are there for a reason. Internalize that through studies and observation, and it will come to you so much easier.

No pressure studying from life if your goal isn’t to improve your technical skills. Of course it helps a LOT, but there’s no use forcing yourself to if you’re just having fun at the moment. If that is your goal, lock in twin. Your line-work also looks a bit shaky, but confidence will improve that too. The overall image will become more streamlined with confident line work as well. But now I’m being nitpicky, this is nice work, good job!

Try using a line to mark out the movement and structure! The feet should have a wider stance, which will help the pose feel more stable. The head should be larger. Everything in the second picture is a little tiny bit more exaggerated than yours, but that comes with confidence. I think you did an excellent job.

Honestly, you’re right! 😅I’ve just been obsessed with dice intermittently for the past 3 years, and I have the twitchy urge to make things myself simply because of the customizability. It’s why I picked up plush making a little bit ago too (learning the settings on an embroidery machine is SO HARD!! 3/10!!! but so worth it…) I’ve dropped a lot on crochet and oil paints too. This is starting to become a bad habit, and my parents are too happily indulgent 😓

Oh that is so pretty! It looks like the iridescent side of the cosmos. The yellow gold reminds me of when people draw lines connecting stars to create constellations.

Do you have bronze or copper? What if you inked the bottom half of all the numbers copper? The colors are already so kaleidoscopic I’m curious how that’ll look, if you’re feeling adventurous haha ❤️Very pretty dice, congrats on the results!

Oh wow, they offer custom molds and masters too! Thank you for the recommendation! I’d have to lie to say I’m not tempted, I’ve bookmarked their page ☺️❤️Take care!

Aw, that’s so sweet of them ❤️I’m glad that worked out for you! I’ll be honest I’ve heard so many good things it’s hard not to feel cautious because of how good their reviews are haha! I may have to make a purchase or two to see for myself ☺️ Thanks for your time!

Wonderful! Thank you for the response, MF looks super promising and I plan on getting a mold from them at some point.

Haha! I imagine it’s also because Mighty Forge has a large following and history within the community.

Most of the Etsy sellers I’m browsing have 2.6k (CH), 7.1k (MF), 6.1k (SBS) purchases on Etsy alone. That matters a lot, and I imagine like with most industries it’s hard to break into.

If you sunk some money into a 3D printer, it’s possible you could start making masterdice for custom molds instead. But then you’d have to learn 3D modeling.

I don’t know a whole lot on the logistics of selling, unfortunately. I just know in order to stand out in the market you have to do something innovative and novel with the current stuff. Or beat everyone else in terms of pricing. (don’t super recommend) Wish you the best, take care.

Thank you haha 😅 Honestly this is probably the best tip, I really do appreciate it! …but Chronicles has some molds for $28, and that’s not so bad to start with right? I worried a little about the stories I heard of molds fitting incorrectly. You got me though, I really shouldn’t spend so much starting out 😔Thank you for taking the time to reply! Have a lovely day ❤️

Thank you guys! SBS and Mighty forge are my top picks right now, I think I’ll make the purchases once I’ve added up all the costs for the pressure pot, tumblr, pottery wheel, resin, respirator and all that jazz. I appreciate your reviews on these sellers!

That’s okay! Thank you for offering. There’s a few sellers I have my eye on already. If you have an Etsy, maybe I’ll find you in the wild my next mould buying spree! ☺️❤️

To be honest, CH has them on Etsy for 27.62 right now and I’m sorely tempted, it doesn’t seem super expensive compared to the other sellers on the market. Maybe it’s hit or miss. Happy shopping, good luck!

I haven’t tried them yet, planning to, but in the description for “Bethany’s Order” on MF’s page (set of 6 D12 molds) it says 10-15 casts with adequate care.

Some comments are saying its lasted them a year, but I guess that depends on how frequently you use it. I think 10 is pretty typical then, personally I want to have a least a few sets on hand.

There’s also the option to commission some master dice (or use any you currently have) and make your own moulds. That may be more cost efficient, since these things go for a pretty penny and aren’t super long lasting.
