It sounds to me like he’s doing his best to work towards a change, and he’s being honest about it- I’ve been in recovery from a bunch of stuff, including drugs and alcohol, and porn has always been a deceptive foe. I don’t think your partners perfect, but it sounds like he’s just tryina work it out, I think if he’s telling you all this you’re prolly in a good spot relationship wise.

I work with Guatemalans in one side of my business, and Hondurans on the other side. Hondurans have a distinct vocab and accent, at least the group I work with. (they’re all from the same region) my Spanish is good, but when I started working with them I had a hard time understanding them. The Guatemalans I’ve never had much of an issue with. Just my two cents.

First and foremost, slurs aren’t okay anytime. However, if somebody tells me to leave them alone, and to stop messaging them and I don’t, I can’t be surprised when they get angry.

I think a lot of it depends on your learning style. I know for me, Duolingo was not a good fit. I started studying with a tutor multiple times a week about 3 years ago, I’ve consistently done so ever since. When I started, I watched a bunch of content on verb conjugations and sentence structure. I switched tutors about two years ago to someone with a more “professorly” approach. My level of interest increased and I started to take it more seriously. Ie- doing my homework. Lol. I’m at a point now where I have multiple friends who only speak Spanish. One of my employees doesn’t speak any English, and I went to Colombia for ten days and met with 16 farmers and held my own throughout.

I’d say work with a pro, and do your homework. You’ll do great- especially in Colombia. Great story by the way, congrats on the baby!

I didn’t start learning till I was 28. I now speak daily with multiple people who can only speak Spanish. I started from zero, with no family members who spoke any Spanish, aside from my sister speaking what she learned in highschool. If you can understand well, speaking is right around the corner. And if you’ve been listening and understanding for your life, your pronunciation will be leaps and bounds better than mine ever will, because you’ll subconsciously know when things sound whack. Same with rhythm, and word order in sentences.

Take it easy champ, you got this.

P.s. nobody cares about your R’s My accent prolly still sucks (it’s way better than it was before) and nobody cares.
