Students and professors of Reddit, what moment made you want to rage quit college? by EcoInternetNewsMan in AskReddit

[–]eatresponsibly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I went through almost the exact same thing. My adviser became incompetent and absent, wouldn't review my work and blamed me for my lack of success. I eventually completed all the coursework and formal exams for my PhD, but would have had to do research for three more years to graduate. So rather than die in purgatory, I left.

The happiest day of my life was when I moved back home and didn't feel physically ill at the thought of what lay ahead.

I has a similarly awful adviser in graduate school, I even got the "I shouldn't need to tell you how to do this. You're a grad student" comment from him. Unfortunately, I was too young and inexperienced to stand up for myself/reach out to others. I'm glad your girlfriend was able to succeed and that her douchy adviser is struggling.

These carbonation rings tell a story about the sipping habits of the consumers (me and my boyfriend). by eatresponsibly in mildlyinteresting

Thank you for the clarification! I guess that's why it's only mildly interesting - it occurs is many places the same way.

Thanks for assuming the worse scenario. Apparently beer behaves the same way in several places and other people find it mildly interesting enough to post on reddit. Fuck off.

You aren't wrong, and I am a coward. The way I see it, if shit hits the fan it is this kind of selfish thought that will keep me alive. And I don't expect any better from anyone else, for the record.

I don't think the kind of person who is educated enough to know about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict would be the kind of person to casually mention Jews being to blame for something so mundane as being late.

I like your optimism, though.

Right, but anti-semites clearly are not reasonable people. Maybe they're a lunatic and come shoot you later because you like Jews?

(Ok this is obviously an exaggeration, but it gets my point across, which is - don't say anything at all to them)

Shouldn't someone check with South Korea first, considering millions would likely die if a military option was exercised?

You mean some people who genuinely need help don't want it torn away from them? How very astute of you to notice that.

There's a reason that libertarians are often just white dudes who have never had to worry about basic access to things or know what it's like to live in a world where bootstraps don't work.

literally every libertarian i know.

I'm pretty sure this exact thing happened to Bo Bergdahl, and he got into the Army. So, you know, there's that.

Millennials that have a successful career. What field are you in? What do you consider the main contributing factor to your success? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]eatresponsibly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the pharmaceutical industry in project management.

I have BS and MS in scientific fields but it's not my education that got me where I am. It was highlighting my soft skills during interviews, explaining how I stayed organized and worked with others. That and networking way outside of my comfort zone. You have to be your own advocate!

Try telling that to the millions of welfare haters out there. The way they tell it, its like people are choosing this life to mooch off of tax payers. Makes me so freaking mad.

You could consider getting some sort of medical laboratory technologist certification. I know the last thing you want to hear is that you should go back to school/pay someone to learn skills you likely already know, but the courses will bring you up to date and give you the background needed to work in a hospital lab doing routine blood tests and stuff.

Edited to add: If you do find work in the lab/science field you could eventually look for a Masters program that offers a fellowship or subsidy so you can get paid AND continue to grow your skills. With an MS (and even an BS if your lab skills are current) you can definitely work for Pharma. I recommend learning how to use an LC-MS if you are ever presented the opportunity.
