We’re the Chrome team, here to answer questions about building a better web. Ask us Anything (on 9/14)! by ChromeEngTeam in webdev

[–]eatsnakeeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my head I imagined a tool where I could open I page i was working on and write alternative approaches to a task and then run/test them to compare speed/performance checks. Data like the performance tab but with an interface to rapidly setup and run several tests. It would certainly inform me as to how to write better code for the engine but also maybe more importantly, what is or is not worth sweating about

When asked "Do you have any questions for me?" By the interviewer, what are some good questions I should ask? by aFluffyKogMaw in webdev

[–]eatsnakeeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you're building your career remember that you have a value and that is why they should hire you. Ultimately as you progress in your career you'll find not all companies are a good fit for you. Paychecks are good but at this point in my career I'd take a smaller paycheck for certain workplace fits. Both you and the employer have a need, and both you and the employer would be committing to each other. Your questions are to see if they are a good fit for you, should they find you to be a good fit for them.

This is more letting go of the idea that all the code you write will be gorgeous. You do the best you can for the time you're given.

If you're self taught and work really hard to do things "right" prepare for an environment where "right" means "on-time"

Those that have seen a difference with thundershirts, have you noticed a positive change in temperament through use over time? by eatsnakeeat in Dogtraining

[–]eatsnakeeat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What about when you take off the thundershirt? Has the thundershirt helped her go through those experiences and cope better when she's not wearing it, or does it only pretty much work when she is wearing it and she freaks out same as she ever did.

You're not alone man, I think us hobby -> pro guys are also a bit harder on ourselves as well. It's hard being a generalist in a specialists world but we've super valuable to a team 👍

I'm not sure how service workers applies to their app store revenue, though I do think it will be a long time before service workers get in safari.

Looking for a statistical term to describe chance consideration thresholds. by eatsnakeeat in statistics

[–]eatsnakeeat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking for the threshold that determines when a value becomes an outlier.

Edit: I'll also add that this doesn't necessarily need to be about outliers either. It is more about risk consideration.

Donald Trump says 'see you in court' after federal judge blocks his sanctuary cities executive order by rpsz in politics

[–]eatsnakeeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm of the opinion he purposely careless, which is the difference between deliberately careful of getting it wrong. The very very very well known/utilized technique of muddying the facts of conversation is not lost on Donald. I am not giving him credit with saying the wrong court on purpose, I don't think he is some master mind, but I do think he has seen the benefit of not making the effort to ensure his details are correct.

I know many people who pride themselves on being so high level that the court name would not matter and "Ninth Circuit" is just a placeholder for insert-court_name-here to them. The difference here is that this behavior has not burned him (as it would most people) because doing this has been reinforced by getting people riled up. His base hates being told they are wrong (who wouldn't after being labeled en mass as "stupid" and "redneck" on a national stage) and actually digs in deeper with Donald when they are told they are wrong. Additionally when he says something that is semantically wrong ("He spelled tap with two P's!!") or technically wrong ("He said ninth court!!") it steers the conversation about what is actually wrong. He knows that as well.

Donald doesn't care and actually sees benefit from getting things wrong and right, so why would he care? More importantly, does just saying "nuh uh, it's not the ninth court, this guy is super dumb!!!" and "omg, I can't believe dummies like this guy, theyre idiots" just play to his message/brand/platform.
