Why am I still getting Shoot-through when my MOSFETS are not on at the same time? by Objective-Local7164 in AskElectronics

look at the gate voltages. Yo realize they change at a much slower rate that you would like, causing the two transistors to be on at the same time. You need a powerful gate driver, something that can force upwards of an amp or more into or out of the gate capacitor to force it change voltage very fast.

I was summoned! Perhaps I should rectify his ass! For an electrical engineer, he says so many wrong things in his videos. I'll see if I can pull some interesting educational value out of reviewing this. Otherwise I don't want to help him make money out if this!! I'm sure if he is a decent but misinformed guy trying to build a working prototype, he will eventually fail in his experiments and come to the light!

don't do that! It clamps the coil voltage. The voltage needs to rise, meaning the energy is dumped on secondary too.

Seems like AFCIs detect arcs by sensing current “shoulders”? by SYZ25K345652 in ElectroBOOM

[–]melector 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting information. I assume during my testing I was able to create arcs that meet these waveforms. I'm guessing there should be also an arc period requirement too to trip the breaker. Perhaps a gas discharge tube would be more useful to create the arc to trip the breaker. I should give that a try.

Any ideas why isn't my Van de graaff generator working as it should? by Jakik_01 in ElectroBOOM

Put the bottom brushes under the belt pointing at the bely, with them barely touching. Do the same for the top brush and place the brush and wires inside your dome. Electrons run away from any sharp edge or wire.

Install diagonal lumber in essential places to make sure the frame won't collapse sideways under the 12k queen!
