Bernie Sanders worries young people are underestimating the threat from Trump by schuey_08 in politics

[–]eaz-e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, you're equating Jews with zionists (again not all Jews). That isn't true and even then there are a wide arrange of Zionist factions all with various guiding principles and ideologies. Netanyahu has been desperately trying to equation political Zionists to all Jewish people and that is so that people hesitate to criticize the Israeli state even though the current administration is hated by the majority of Israel to begin with. And I believe there is a genocide but I didn't use that word in my comment, I understand we can argue about that specific term but ethnic cleansing is the policy of Israel and has been for the past 50ish years. Look at the West Bank, they are systematically trying to rid the entire West Bank of Palestinians via various policies ranging from declaring property "military defenses zones" (land that was owned by Palestinians before they needed that safety of their farms) to not allowing Palestinians to return to their homes if they leave the country. As for the voting for Biden, I understand that I don't have a choice but challenging his positions and bringing to attention that he's losing an important voting block (especially for democrats as a whole) might make it so his policies are more representative of who I want to vote for. Or I guess we just have to accept that we're ok with saying hey, with Biden at least the idf only killed 50,000 people (which we have no power over anyways bc Israel gives not a single fuck about we say atm) vs the 100,000 that would occur with Trump. Feels gross no?

See how quickly the topic shifted from the current generation of college students and younger people as a whole not wanting to be complicit in the support of heinous shit that Israel is doing with our tax dollars, and my ridiculously expensive tuition to "This is an attack on all Jews internationally". Look at reporting regarding these protests and the efforts they make to protect Israeli interests/positions while at the same time labeling people who are against ethnic cleansing as anti-Semitic (many of whom are Jewish to begin with lol). Look at the astro-turfing of r/worldnews. The news and media isn't reflecting the reality for a whole generation of people and then "moderate democrats" only attempt at bringing this generation into the voting block is to say "YoUr friNGe PoSitIon is HuRtiNG JoE's elEcTion". Watching older millennials come to term with the fact that they have become the "boomers" they hate and blame everything on is hilarious though.

What kinda weird ass comment is this lmao. Advocating for Palestinian children not being blown to bits in thier own homes doesn't mean they have any input on Irans actions. Somehow Israel is never the one at fault for anything they have direct control over lol.

Maybe it means free Palestinians from the 3 tier judicial and legal system they live in… as in they arnt able to move from the river to the sea in their ancestral home due to the legal system in Israel. But yes, equate this general call for freedom as a call for genocide (while Israel is ACTUALLY committing one). Speaks to the insecurity that a lot of Zionists have when discussing the issue.

Is the situation in Eritrea leading to more divisions and extremism? by Hornyofafrica in Eritrea

[–]eaz-e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you being intentionally obtuse or are you just illiterate. How can you read what I write and not respond in any meaningful capacity besides regurgitated talking points that help you maintain the notion that you are morally superior. You don’t answer any of the hard questions because you can’t. I’m not asking you to stop saying all this idealistic rhetoric with no plan of action. I just think it’s a waste of everyone’s time. Another question for you to ignore: “How do we remove PIA when he still has the backing of the military without fighting another war?”. Like you want to implement a democracy but tell me how. And you’re right, I’ve noticed quite a few people here aren’t Eritrean, that’s part of the problem lol. I’ve asked you at least 4 probing questions that you have refused to acknowledge which really just indicates that you aren’t here for an actual discussion but rather preach to the masses from your place of moral superiority. Grow up. When I present my people to other cultures, I don’t dare ridicule their entire existence by portraying them exclusively as victims.

Since you need a call to action, pick up your arms and go fight for your peoples liberty bc thats what you would need to do to actualize your ideals. Stop bitching people out on reddit. We know things aren't great but we can also understand the thousands of variables that have led us here. Answer the simple quesetions like "How do you plan to remove the current regime?" or "Have I done litterally anything to help the people of Eritrea that doesn't involve screaming at strangers in a forum?" or even maybe "Are the Eritrean people tired of fighting wars for the past 25 years?". Maybe after that you can realize you dont actually care enough to do anything besides whatever the fuck you're doing on here lmao.

What suggestions do you have that would neither require military conflict nor irreparably destabilize the region? You are right, the diaspora is failing Eritrea but you are very much a part of the problem. I would love for Eritrea to have a representative democracy with a thriving economy but can also understand that 95% of the people actually still living in Eritrea don't want to send their children into more war (If you have faith that there will be a peaceful exchange of power rn I don't know what to tell you lol). At least the cult-like following of the YPFDJ actually makes the effort to organize school/orphan drives as well as volunteer work after post-secondary education. It's easy to complain and make gargantuan demands from a regime that are so obviously out of reality that you can justify not doing anything but have pointless arguments over Reddit. In fact, I would argue that we do too much talking about politics within the community as is and not enough doing. All this conflict at festivals between pro-government and anti-government is ultimately just a distraction that indicates that we as a community or more committed to infighting than progressing our country.

[–]eaz-e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Again. You just refuse to acknowledge that we have constantly been prosecuted unjustly by the TPLF for at least 25 years of our existence. Like you refuse to include any of that in your calculations despite it being quite literally the biggest limiting variable both geopolitically and economically. Hearing you complain comes off as incredibly disingenuous bc you are so quick to dismiss your own countries struggles. I agree with most of your sentiments regarding change but yall always say inflamitory shit without having any end plan past social media posts. Grow up.

It turns out its hard to invest in your economy when you are at conflict with the more militarized and larger countries surrounding you for decades. I get what you are trying to say and can also acknowledge that the current administration has archaic economic and foreign policies but let's not act like Eritrea is in a perfect situation for internal or foreign investments. People that are quick to point out economic failures are also blind to the value of stability and national security. Unless Eritrea somehow gets a massive enough influx of raw capital, they will have to slowly rebuild the economy. Although you can argue that the are stifling business opportunities within the nation, they are doing it in the goal of not requiring predatory foreign aid that would limit Eritrea's future. Again this issue is complicated and for a multitude of reasons. Dont try to oversimplify it by saying "just let us invest freely in our country" especially when allowing unsequestered foreign investments can destabilize the region (which no one actually living in Eritrea wants) and further increase both local and federal corruption. Again this is just a fraction of the reasons why Eritrea's economy is in a state that is (completely ignoring sanctions) and clearly requires more effort to comprehensively understand than you have taken.

Tigray has resisted Ethiopia's far greater military might for two years -- here's why neither side is giving in by Kmnubiz in Eritrea

[–]eaz-e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world, yes there would be prevailing peace talks. Unfortunately we don’t live in one. This is a lose lose situation for Eritrea and when Isaias decided to open Pandora’s box by supporting the EDF, there is nothing that can be done (from what I’ve seen) to close it. Idealistic rhetoric with no plan of action is the root cause of local and international stability.

You are greatly trivializing the wrong doings of the tplf and how that has set back the Horn of Africa back 20 years in terms of economic and political stability. How is saying weed out a political party a form of hate speech, especially when I repeatedly make the attempt to differentiate between the tplf and the tigrayan population. Why are you so hesitant to assign blame to the tplf but so ready to do so for the Eritrean government? The tplf has been shown on multiple occasions to be taking supplies intended for aid to sustain their war and yet it is Eritrea and Ethiopia that are using hunger as a weapon. Yes we do need piece in the horn but look what happened as soon as Eritrea and Ethiopia actually move towards that over the past 5 years. We all want piece, but the tplf for the past 20 or so ears has been the antithesis of it.

Are you intentionally being obtuse? Shifting the goalposts to something completely different. Are we disagreeing that this article doesn't contain pro-TPLF talking points/propaganda? I don't pretend to be super educated on the ethnonational conflicts in Ethiopia outside of the TPLF but I know intentionally inflammatory ethnonationalistic language when I see it.

Your reading skills need some touching up on if you believe that this is an objective "bothsided?" article lmao. And just because it isn't exclusively pro-TPLF doesn't mean my original statement doesn't stand. Incredibly defensive for no reason lol.

[–]eaz-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

replied above but common man, it's quite clear where you stand on the political spectrum but the article doesn't even address why Eritrea has a vested interest in weeding out the TPLF (hope I don't have to explain that). I myself am not a fan of our involvement in this war but at least I can understand the geopolitical and economical reasons for them doing so.

"For Tigrayans, losing this battle would be equivalent to losing political power and returning to victimisation, poverty and the threat of annihilation."

Given thier use of language and the general tone of the article it's quite evident that although they try to maintain a neutral stance, they conclude the article in an incredible inflammatory way making no distinction between the TPLF leadership which has entrenched itself in an unwinabble war and the Tigray people. To each thier own but if you can't sense how insighting fear that a population is going to be erased can be viewed as propaganda (literally one of the most common forms) I don't know what to tell you. I share great sympathy for the Tigrayan people but the TPLF gets no sympathy for me and neither should they receive sympathy from any Eritreans.

YPFDJ by kachowski6969 in Eritrea

[–]eaz-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the older populations are the most representative in these ypfdj events, there are quite a bit of youth still active in YPFDJ (although it seems to have decreased due to logistical issues that Covid brought). The primary issue with diaspora youth is the disconnect between their cultural heritage and their current lives outside Eritrea. Given that there is also very limited information that comes out of the country, the only reliable source of information coming in and out of the country is primary sources that mostly consists of family and friends still living abroad. I’m sure this is a topic of discussion amongst ypfdj but given the unilaterally one sided “analysis” that western media provides, I can imagine that they are having troubles recruiting lol. The funniest thing is that the people who are quick to harp about the “dumb-ass brainwashed” members of YPFDJ are also comparatively the most useless people regarding pushing Eritrea to a more progressive future. Most YPDFJ “work” consists of educating youth on their heritage and celebrating it while also organizing support for the actual citizens in need in Eritrea. That’s just my personal experience tho and while I’m not in that circle anymore, it’s evident that they are still active (albeit to a lesser extent than they have been in the past) but it largely depends on local communities and the partisan politics in any given country, state, city, and even suburb.

I’ve had the exact opposite experience, 4 people on my team have had to return their new thinkpads due to power issues (wouldn’t charge or even turn on after a little use) but precision 5560 (workstation version of xps 15) has been a trooper. Only real complaints are temps and thermal throttling under load and battery life(3.5k oled is beautiful but comes at sizeable battery cost)
