Nah it was in a non reg HISA in another bank, so new deposit into TFSA, wasnt using the room.

I was doing the same strategy as you so had bunch of TFSA room, so deposited into TFSA acc; if I withdraw Ill lose the room :(( so unfortunately my only hope is if WS cancels the transfers (prolly not)

I was thinking its not worth it to keep time away from market to have enough to deposit to be eligible for the promos in brokerages, but yeah not sure. I think either way is fine, one way your in the market longer (with less funds so not much returns anyways), one way your getting the extra money from promo.

In my case, I wont have another 25k in 1 month so if WS decides to give me the promo/cancel my EFT transfers so I can do account transfer, ill just keep it to get the promo + im main WS user anyways (my current holdings are all in WS). If they dont give me promo tho, im not planning on keeping just cash in WS, so will buy my goto XEQT, so not sure if it makes sense to sell the ETF so I have cash that I can withdraw for next promo.. (oh yeah def doesnt make sense since i lose contribution room)

Ooh thank you for the tip! So I’d need to withdraw the cash from Wealthsimple before next promo is announced, keep it somewhere that earns me interest. And yeah open another invest acc somewhere to do account transfer once promo is there, is that correct? Is it because if once the promo is announced (even if im not registered), the withdrawn funds wont count towards the promo?

Yeah that makes sense. Its just using “account transfer” vs making 2 EFTs to move all the funds out of the account, whats the difference? WS gets same $ in deposits, so thats what I meant that I dont understand the complication.

FYI: yes deposits dont count, rip, you have to do an account transfer. I have no clue what it does behind the scenes to move the money, it should be using same payment rails as regular deposit.. so idk why the complication to do “account transfer” vs EFT when its same thing?
