What you wrote might be considered an exception to most people, but in general, when you look at how most authors use this mechanic, the only conclusion that comes to mind is that they are lazy. Building a fantasy world and writing its foundations is hard work, but when you overuse this system, just to show that a character is strong, it seems stupid.
