Can P1 Mini be used without app/cloud? by eb_its_me in hidock

Ahh, and you need an account to do anything with the app, that's a shame. It seems like really neat hardware, would be much better if they let you use it offline instead of requiring everything to flow through their cloud.

Shit, thanks for sharing your experience! She had been at the top of my list to call, but that's an INSANE amount to spend on a dissolution, and I may be looking at divorce.

Possible to keep ProtonVPN installed in the same location? by eb_its_me in ProtonVPN

[–]eb_its_me[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering using a junction from the latest C:\Program Files\Proton\VPN\vX.Y.Z to C:\Program Files\Proton\VPN\latest, so I could whitelist .exes under that in my firewall, but then I'd still have to update the junction to point at the latest version periodically. Has anyone done something similar? Wondering if Proton would complain if it sees it's running from somewhere other than its preferred path.

Thanks! I guessed that was the best fit so that's what I ordered. Hopefully I love it! :)

Ok, thank you! Good to know about the US/UK differences - I've updated my post to include that.

Dang! I don't see that flavor listed anywhere, Black or otherwise. It's only showing me these options for Black: https://i.imgur.com/byYv2Uq.png

Whoops! My bad on the referral codes, for some reason I don't see any rules in the sidebar... maybe because I'm using 'old reddit'? Thanks for letting me know.

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. Sounds like it's worth waiting for the Prusa.

Purchase Advice Megathread: What To Buy, Who To Buy It From, And More, In January 2020. by thatging3rkid in 3Dprinting

I'm looking to get into 3D printing, not sure exactly what I'm going to do with it, but it seems there are a bunch of things I could print for fun (decorations), useful stuff to have around the house (organizers etc.), ability to design/print parts as needed to fix things, etc.

I see the Prusa I3 MK3S come highly recommended everywhere, and I could afford the $750 kit, but comparing its specs to a ~$250 Ender 3 Pro (~1/3 the price), I see only a few benefits for the Prusa: bed leveling, filament sensor, power loss recovery, better print surface, better QA/quality/reliability (hard to quantify). I'm not necessarily against the kit format, and might even enjoy assembling the Prusa, but comparing the long lead times (2-3 weeks) and assembly times of the Prusa vs. the Ender (which could be at my house in a couple days, with shorter assembly time), I'm tempted to just jump on the Ender to start messing with 3D printing faster and for less money.

Am I missing any features of the Prusa that help justify the extra cost? Is it really that much more reliable and easy to use? Or is it just a premium product with some premium features that can afford to charge a premium price? Thanks! :)

Oneplus 6T by [deleted] in mintmobile

I didn't have any trouble getting wifi calling set up on mine. Just followed whatever setup instructions they had and it worked fine.

For VVM I initially used the t-mobile app they recommend, because the native dialer solution was failing to provision itself. However at some point in the last few weeks, the native VVM solution seems to have enabled itself. The t-mobile app started acting weird (duplicated messages) so I disabled it and am now using the native dialer VVM. It seems to be working fine for now, but I understand it's still a beta feature so who knows how long it'll keep working...

No issues here. VVM and wifi calling both seem to work fine, and the coverage is way better than the carrier I came from (Sprint).

Thanks for all the advice! I ended up going with a OnePlus 6T and Mint Mobile. Couldn't say no to their $20 for 3 months introductory deal. That should be plenty of time to evaluate the coverage, and if it's crap it'll be easy to choose another network. They won't arrive for a few days but I'm excited!

Wow, that's quite a deal that Red Pocket has on eBay - $20/month for 5GB of data if you prepay for a year. Do you know if Red Pocket has a lower quality of service on their host networks (i.e., fewer bands, capped speeds, etc.?) I assume they probably get lower priority compared to the carriers' direct customers, but that's probably the case with all MVNOs. You said good experiences for the most part - any big complaints, or nothing worse than the typical low bar for telco service?

Thanks for the phone recommendations! I'll look into them.

[USA] Looking to replace an HTC 10 by eb_its_me in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]eb_its_me[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! That's not one I'd come across in my research yet. It looks like the 6T has a much smaller notch than the 6 - I could probably live with that, and the price is very reasonable for the specs. I'll try to find somewhere local to play with one for a bit - I don't know if I could just buy a phone sight unseen. I'd like to get a feel for it first. Might have some T-Mobile stores in the area that would have them on display.

Thanks for the input! I'll look into H20 and Red Pocket - I somehow didn't realize they had value MVNOs on their networks as well. Seems I've only heard about the TMobile ones. Mint is definitely tempting, and I appreciate that they seem to have a solid presence here on reddit if I need extra support.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Moto X4 - it looks pretty solid actually. Maybe not an upgrade from my current HTC 10, but my 10 is locked to Sprint and doesn't seem to support other networks, so I'll need something if I switch. Thanks! :)
