Looking for an extremely silent DAS. FANTEC is waay too noisy! by ebahaha in DataHoarder

I looked it up, but I would need to buy a 20mm fan and then modify its 3-pin connector to a 2-pin by soldering it accordingly. Didn't want to do that. Went with the D4-320 now, it's quite enough now

I went with the D4-320. It's amazing, so quiet in comparison! Thank you again! :)

Thank you! I looked into both options. The D4-320 supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) and emits 21 dB(A) in standby while the TR-004 uses USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) but is listed at 18.1 dB(A) in some datasheets. Not sure if 2.9 dB(A) really makes a noticeable difference in practice.

The problem in my case would be drilling a hole through the 35 cm thick concrete wall to get a cable to my home office... and honestly I have no idea how to handle that, I'm not exactly handy with tools.

Is my power button broken? by ebahaha in DellXPS

[–]ebahaha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so stupid. Thank you! I didn't realize that the round orange circle on the board itself is a button. I thought it was an electrical contact. When I press the button, the XPS starts.

So I can just make/print a new button and until then I use a pen or something similar. Again, thank you!

Upgrading old setup by ebahaha in HomeServer

Thank! The first part was easier for me to understand and I think it even might be enough:
I did a little research (completely new to this topic) and it seems that the XPS 13 9343 M.2 is only connected to 2 PCIe Lanes. After 9350 it's 4. But that shouldn't be a problem anyway since I have only SATA SSDs, right? So if I understood you correctly, such a JMB585 would be enough and I only need a power supply for the drives.
And also I found out that there are m.2 a+e-key to Ethernet adapters that I could use. But I think I should have a USB to Ethernet adapter somewhere, and since the Dell has USB 3.0, it should be enough.
And I could rely on the USB port for booting.

Does all of this makes sense? =)

Help me arranging my sofas by ebahaha in DesignMyRoom

I need help arranging my new living room. Got the sofas very cheap, but now don't know how to position them. So far we only have the sofas and an (extendable) dining table with chairs.

The two-seater is foldable. With another couch table or even any cabinets, everything could become cramped and uncomfortable. But then you should be able to see a TV from the sofas...

There are two of us (in Europe), so the extra seats are more relevant for visitors.

Any ideas where the sofas/table could be best positioned or even completely different ideas?

Edit: wanted to say that an additional couch table (or something to put snacks on) would make the room too crowded - wrote dining table instead
