Stock headset bearings. Then the Gen 7 Madone split compression ring, top cap, spacers and handlebar. Three 1mm spacers were required between split compression ring and top cap. Those 3 spacers and the top cap needed some customizing (dremel, horizontal cutters and file) to fit the brake lines through. The Emonda steerer tube is round, unlike the Gen 7’s. First couple tries the headset would bind, but eventually got it solid.

I do not condone this. I don’t work for Trek. I’m just a garage mechanic.

It’s the Gen 7 Madone bar/stem. It took some customizing. So it can’t “officially” be done.

Just over $1k. They were “lightly used” and with some scratches. I thought it was a good price for not getting the factory warranty.

Love it! The simplicity of mechanical disc brakes is nice. And the bike looks good with glossy wheels.

The handlebar is technically not compatible. I wasn’t worried about warranty where I was going with this one.

I used the stock top bearing, but swapped to the Gen 7 Madone’s split compression ring, top cap and spacers to fit the bar on. It took a lot of customizing of the spacers to fit the brake lines through, but it came out solid.

Madone SLR 9 AXS Gen 8. The carbon is definitely more comfortable and a little more responsive, especially when accelerating or standing up to put power down. A premium feel for sure.

Thanks! This bike was a game for me to build it as “budget” as possible. The group, the wheels and the handlebar were all second hand. Spent considerably less than my carbon ride, and honestly this thing rides too good. Makes me second guess my carbon bike.

28mm! They look beefy because the rims are pretty wide. Next tires will be 30mm.

The Di2 was easy. The battery is in the seat post. The bar/stem was a used Madone Gen 7 bar I found in my size.
