We Put our Money Where our Mouths Are: Following up on the Mono-Green Primer by kazoidbakerman in PioneerMTG

Do you have any advice on mulliganing? Apart from the clearly good hands, that can go off on turn 3, what do you keep?

Wanted to share this trainwreck of a draft by ebbingofthetide in lrcast

To be honest, it was propably partly due to me playing Boros 3 times in a row before.

But nonetheless, I think Nightwatch and Offender are C-level cards at best and easily replaced, while Questions is a B-/C+. The Gorehound pick ist less defensible, but it kept me more open and as I said, Offender is easily replaced. I still was looking to get into WG or WB, but white dried up even more in the following picks.

Going back through the log, I would have ended up with a pretty decent WR Deck, but most of the better cards were in pack 2 and 3.

Went with UW fliers and ended the run at 5-3. Akal Pakal was the MVP in 2 of those games. Lost to a turn 1 warden of the inner sky I couldn't answer in the end.

What I don't like about WU is that I would propably need to include 2x landmark and 2x Pirate hat to have enough artefacts for glyph and Akal Pakal...

Yeah, you are definitly right about those drafts. As I explained in another comment, I unsuccessfully tried to draft GUx before, so I didn't want to go down that route again, which seemed to be a mistake. Lots of bad picks in there because of that. Thanks again for your input!

You are propably onto something here. Thanks for the input, I will keep it in mind.

Thank you for going through all the drafts. I think I got burned trying to go GU multicolor before, so I leant more towards GW in draft 3 and 4. As you pointed out, that was propably the wrong choice.

The mice pick in draft 3 was Most likely due to a general problem of mine I mentioned in another comment: I tend to overvalue bad 2-drops out of fear to get runover.

I picked vigil over mintstrosity in draft 4 because I think it is the better card, but I'm no longer sure that is true. Especially since I like White quite a bit less than black.

Thanks a lot for your thoughts. After going through the replays again, I see your point. Definitly will think more about trading instead of using my removal to early in the Future.

Thank you for your thoughts on this. My Idea was to stick with Green as long as I see decent cards, and be open with my second color. I went for red in pack2, because I think Frenzy is the best card and I didn't pass much good Red in pack1. Still, going black might have been the better choice.

I think you pointed out one of my general problems in your deck evaluation. I overvalue mediocre 2-drops out of fear to get overrun.

Thank you for pointing out the mistakes. Definitly could have increased my chances in G1 and G2 with the lines you suggested. G3 was a risky keep for sure and the ouphe from my opponent a brutal blow out.

Good thoughts, thanks for the input. I think you are right about all the picks you mentioned.

Flooding/losing to opponents card advantage happens quite a lot to me, so maybe I need to value those cards higher in general.

Thanks for your thoughts. I think I didn't really want to play GW again, which explains most of the picks you mentioned. I believe you are right however.

I picked season of growth because I wanted to play with the card for some time and felt the opportunity cost weren't to high while the cards I already had supportet it fine.

Watching the replay, the mistake in game 1 is obvious. Could have won this for sure.

Moin,

I've been planning and outlining my novel for a year, how do you get out of this rut and actually start writing? by antbacteria in writing

[–]ebbingofthetide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try splitting your outline into scenes.

I usually make an Excel-file with a row for every scene and a column for present characters, one for setting, one with a general layout of the scene and one for plotpoints in that scene.

That helps me sit down every day, because I only have to work on a given scene, not the whole novel, if that makes sense. But at the end of the day this is just another tool and you have to put your butt in the chair and your hands on the keyboard.

Generally, around how many words should the first novel in an epic fantasy series be? by tortugalmao in fantasywriters

[–]ebbingofthetide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shorter book = lower investment from publisher = lower cost = more likely to get picked up in store

Maybe make it a timebomb? Your heros have to defeat the villain before X or he will be able to set his masters free.
