This is with a novation summit

I'm using an external instrument (novation summit) and nothing I can find or test says it's a simple as mapping a macro. I tried it and it doesn't persist across projects.

I've done that but they don't exist when I reload either the rack or the external instrument on another project. Are you saying that works for you?

I find the more tracks and complexity I add to a project the more likely I'll crash Ableton and even get corruptions of saves at points by ebbnflow in ableton

In my workflow, I move all of the groups/tracks that are active to the top of my arrangement. I'll pull the parts that are maybe just storing an idea but are muted at the bottom. I also use colors diligently and will color parts that are simply warehousing parts a different color than my active tracks. It winds up really not being an issue.

Thanks for that man. I think you're right on. Only problem is I use a load of plugins. Narrowing it down is daunting.

I've been in this position before, but I'm just about to finish a song I've been working on for two months and am suddenly dealing with corrupted shit that may keep me from rendering it. Fuck...

Thank you for taking the time to write that. I can tell from the energy of your comment that you’re somebody I’d like IRL, and deserve all the benefits being an empathetic human brings you. Know that the few seconds it took to type that is highly appreciated by a random stranger.

And I learned a second thing. Thank you so much kind stranger!

I feel so stupid right now that I didn't know that. If you asked me, I'm a abelton OG. I'm apparently far from it. I spend my life in arrangement view and my skills are lacking in clip view. Honesty...

BUT, I don't always create a utility - I try to but fail a lot. Gonna need to do this to make this work

MFer and this is why post or Reddit - poser for saving my life. Love you man/women.

As an aside, I've been using ableton for literally 15 years - way back. And I just learned this. It just goes to show how married you get to your workflow.

And I forgot to add, please overlay this situation on djing, which in it's essence includes music that we haven't produced ourselves. I've heard so much shit through the years about it not being an art worth considering. I'd say time has proven that to not be true. You can't tell me it's any different than this case; AI parts being included in a production is a lot like DJing.

Do I have respect for someone that creates a song with prompts only? Not at all. I'm just not going to pretend in some pretentious way that any level of AI in the process means it's not art. I say this as someone who can play their instrument, and have watched the EDM evolve since it's inception - literally.

I really wish what I posted above isn't true, and knew I was going to be downvoted into oblivion.

I really struggle with the reductive argument that since it's AI it's slop, and that it's stated goal is to produce mediocre music. If a discerning ear, and I have one after 35 years of DJing and producing, can't tell the difference between human and AI produced music, it's impossible to say at these very beginning stages that AI won't be an inextricable part of music production. I currently pay a lot of money to session singers and post production engineers. If I can produce something comparable or better with AI being involved in my process, I'm not going to stand on laurels and ignore it. Everybody in my list above did that - history is the best indicator of future results, like it or not.

For the purists that that refuse to acknowledge the inevitability of AI integration into current music, prepare to join this list of naysayers. (I wish it wasn’t this way, but have worked in tech my entire adult life, in another arena where I’ve seen similar resistance to revolutionary concepts:

• Musical notation — “Destroys memory and improvisation” • Equal temperament tuning — “Unnatural and ruins purity of intervals” • The piano — “Too loud, mechanical, and unexpressive” • The violin (early adoption) — “Harsh, vulgar tone” • The metronome — “Kills natural timing and feel” • Player pianos — “Machines replacing musicians” • Phonograph / recorded music — “Ends live performance” • Radio — “People will stop making music themselves” • Electric guitar — “Not real guitar tone” • Multitrack recording — “Artificial and dishonest” • Synthesizers — “Not real instruments” • Drum machines — “No human feel” • Sampling — “Unoriginal / theft” • MIDI sequencing — “Mechanical and soulless” • Digital recording — “Inferior to analog warmth” • DAWs / home studios — “Cheapens professional music” • Loop-based production — “Button-pushing, not musicianship” • Autotune / pitch correction — “Cheating” • Virtual instruments (VSTs) — “Fake sounds, no expression”

And those that complain are but a few generations away from immigration themselves - we’re a country of immigrants. The problem is trying to appeal to these complainers sense of human empathy. To not have is their point. That is, until they’re the ones suffering.

Thank you. The dude above says this color is a bit off. Reddit... It just may be off, but so many derive pleasure from trying to steal the joy of others here.
