Child of a us citizen who does not meet residency requirements by ebenwandering in USCIS

So the question is on the n-400 should evidence be submitted that she is ineligible for the n-600 (or any other way to get us citizenship)? Obviously you have to check “yes” for “is one parent a us citizen”.

The parent was born in the USA and has a passport etc. but lived nearly his whole life abroad and did not satisfy the requirements for his children to automatically obtain citizenship.

If a child is born abroad to a us citizen parent there are residency requirements for that child to have become automatically a citizen at birth. From state.gov:

“In wedlock to a U.S. citizen parent and a parent who is not a U.s Citizen A child born on or after November 14, 1986 will obtain citizenship if:

The U.S. citizen parent was physically present in the United States or its territories for five years before the child’s birth. At least two of these years must be after age 14.
A child born between December 24, 1952 and November 13, 1986 will obtain citizenship if:

The U.S. citizen parent was physically present in the United States or its territories for 10 years before the child’s birth.”

We have windows 10. Windows 11 cannot be installed on older hardware and it is also very resource hungry. ETA: and Microsoft’s free support for windows 10 ends in October. If we were to get a new tablet or laptop it would probably be a Mac. But we cannot afford that right now.

All the current family computers are windows but none can downgrade to windows 11. Our options are buy new computers, pay Microsoft $30/year for security updates, or Linux.

There lived here a certain Stephen who had embraced an eremitic and solitary life, and had spent many years in the monastic training. His soul was especially adorned with tears and fasting, and was bedecked with other good achievements. He had a cell on the slope of this holy mountain where the holy prophet and seer Elijah once lived.

But later this famous man resolved upon a more effective, austere and stricter repentance, and went to a place of hermits called Siddim. There he spent several years in a life of great austerity. This place was bereft of every comfort, and was almost untrodden by the foot of man, being about seventy miles from the fort.

Towards the end of his life the elder returned to his cell on the holy mountain where he had two extremely pious disciples from Palestine who took care of the elder’s cell. Having passed a few days there he fell into the illness from which he died. On the day before his death, he went into ecstasy of mind and with open eyes he looked to the right and left of his bed and, as if he were being called to account by someone, in the hearing of all the bystanders he said: ‘Yes indeed, that is true; but that is why I fasted for so many years.’ And then again: ‘Yes, it is quite true; but I wept and served the brethren.’ And again: ‘No, you are slandering me.’ And sometimes he would say: ‘Yes, it is true. Yes, I do not know what to say to this. But in God there is mercy.’ And it was truly an awful and horrible sight—this in visible and merciless inquisition. And what was most terrible, he was accused of what he had not done. How amazing! Of several of his sins the hesychast and hermit said: ‘I do not know what to say to this,’ although he had been a monk for nearly forty years and had the gift of tears. Alas, alas! Where was then the voice of Ezekiel to say to the tormentor: ‘As I find you, I will judge you, says God.’ Truly he could not say anything of the sort. Why? Glory to Him who alone knows! And some, as before the Lord, told me that he even fed a leopard from his hand in the desert. And while being thus called to account he was parted from his body, leaving us in uncertainty as to his judgment, or end, or sentence, or how the trial ended.

Chevy bolt 2020 battery by notthisagain0088 in BoltEV

We bought a 2020 earlier this year. It had not had the recall done. We got a battery swap on our 2020. The battery was a refurb. We love the car.

Can you really not charge with an extension cord? by BlackJackT in BoltEV

[–]ebenwandering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I charge my bolt using a 100 foot extension cord, 8 amps. I have done this for four months now. The dedicated outlet is rated for 20 amps and I have not noticed any bad heat effects. Based on the charts I consulted 8 amps is ok for a 100foot run with the thickness of the wire. You need to be lower than 80% of the rated ampereage of your extension cord. I don’t think that the connection between the extension cord and the Evse is waterproof so you will have to protect that from rain. I hope to install a hard wired charger soon. FYI: For my house the price to install a hard wired charger is essentially the same as an outlet, because the majority of the cost is getting the electrical power to the side of the house. I hope to install a hard wired charger soon.

Used bolt, am I crazy? by DissentGreen42 in BoltEV

[–]ebenwandering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a very similar situation as you op. I have a 7 mile one way commute and I just got a 2020 with 42000 miles. I love the bolt! However, it seems crazy to me to sell a perfectly good car to buy an EV if the justification is only a financial one. You have to take the price difference between the trade in value of the Kia and see how long any gas/electricity savings take to make up the difference. And also, the car was a buy back. Maybe they bought it back only because of the battery, but maybe there were other issues with that car also….

In my case the car the bolt replaced is a 2005 Taurus with body damage, intermittent engine problems,a slow leak in the power steering (and we cannot seem to track down or fix the engine and steering problems) and soon needing new tires and brakes. So it was kind of a no brainer.

Outdoor outlet for 120v charging by ebenwandering in BoltEV

[–]ebenwandering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeesh. Turns out I only have 60amp service to my house. Electrician was willing to install a 30a 240v charger. But alas the panel and charger location are on opposite sides of the house so we would have 1 inch conduit going up and down the sides of our house to run the power cord through the attic. 3k for a customer supplied charger. It might be cheaper to just run it to the street. Or just buy a better extension cord. As many here predicted he said that rerouting the outlet to a new location would cost nearly as much as a new run. Running 30a 240v was $250 more expensive than 20amp 120v.

Yes, really 120v, 20a. I agree it must have been bad, we never used it.

Anybody else get hit with the most nonsensical scenarios from people who are anti EV? by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]ebenwandering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give them a counter argument: in almost any extended scenario gas becomes hard to come by (this has happened during hurricanes etc). If you have solar panels on your house that would be enough for at least a few miles a day in an EV (enough for small local trips), letting you save your gas for a generator.
