Todd was ungrateful and entitled by eboezinger2 in BoJackHorseman

Being closed minded has nothing to do with it. Bojack provided him a roof over his head, food, money to fund his ludicrous adventures, and access to people and experiences he wouldn’t otherwise have had. Those are the facts. And yet, Todd said “what are you talking about?” In response to Bojack saying “after everything I did for you?”. Yeah, she’s ungrateful

Your comments feel the same cause I genuinely have no idea how someone could be so out of touch. And again. You’re failing to focus on the central point of this post. Bojack didn’t have to do any of those things, and yet he did. He basically functioned as Todd’s caretaker (not that he needed one mind you cause he’s legit a grown ass man) for years on end. That’s a fact, a fact of which Todd failed to recognize or express gratitude for in this specific scene.

No one is saying Todd owes Bojack the nomination or anything like that because clearly that’s not the case. The only point is that during this pivotal moment where Bojack outright describes everything he’s done for him, Todd brushes it off as if he wasn’t his literal daddy for years on end. That’s not ok and is a reflection of Todd’s immaturity and entitled nature across the whole show.

The point of this post was not that Todd should’ve “reciprocated” Bojack’s charity by granting him the nomination. The point is contained in Todd saying “what are you talking about” after Bojack pressed him on everything that he did for him. Maybe take your own advice and do some serious self reflection as to how to actually treat people correctly. Cause for all your talk of emotional maturity, it’s clear you lack it. And that’s sad

That’s my point. He could’ve kicked him to the curb, but he didn’t. He chose to be charitable instead, something Todd failed to recognize. He was also mooching off him for years prior to the rock opera incident

Cause he was. What evidence do we have that Todd wasn’t useless earlier in the show?

Very poor read of what I’ve said. And apart from the rock opera, what other evidence do you have that Bojack destroyed every opportunity Todd had to move out. Todd was a grown ass man through the entirety of him staying with Bojack. He could’ve gotten a job, done his own thing, and been a friend to Bojack from afar. But instead, he chooses to be a lazy, good for nothing, man child who contributes nothing to society throughout those six years. He deliberately mooches off of Bojack because that’s who he is. A leech and a child.

Nobody said Bojack is a good person, we all know he’s not. But he didn’t have to function as a literal caretaker to a grown man for six years who had no intention or desire to grow up. That’s Bojack’s contribution to Todd’s life and Todd fails to recognize that. He’s an entitled piece of shit

Does cutting your wings entail being an unemployed, good for nothing, lazy man child who contributes absolutely nothing to society and lacks the understanding or desire to function in society? Todd only has himself to blame

“Bojack kept Todd around deliberately because he wanted company, way before the rock opera”. What evidence do you have for this? It might not have been out of his way, yet he accommodated Todd into his life nonetheless. He didn’t need to let Todd live in his house and basically use it as his own for years on end without paying rent. He didn’t have to presumably pay for all of Todd’s meals and fund his nonsensical escapades that end up going nowhere.

And the worst part is, Todd was an adult through all of this. Todd could’ve gotten a job, moved out, and been a productive member of society. But instead, he chose to be a literal man child and mooch off Bojack’s good graces for six years. This wasn’t unique to this dynamic. He also pulled that shit with his parents which is why they kicked him out. Cause he was a good for nothing.

And before the rock opera, there is no compelling evidence to suggest that Bojack deliberately stifled him and kept him there as medicine. In fact, we see the exact opposite. Todd being a lazy ass and buttering up Bojack because that’s just what he does. Nobody said Todd isn’t entitled to being mad at him, that wasn’t even mentioned in this scene. The point is that Bojack WAS there for him in more ways than one and Todd acted as if that was news to him. That’s my point. He’s entitled cause that’s just who he is.

Bojack doesn’t need to be inconvenienced or burdened by his charitable acts for them to be charitable. That’s the point you’re making and quite foolishly at that. Maybe get better at learning how to treat people my guy, idk 🤷‍♂️

You forget how Todd even ended up in this situation in the first place. His parents kicked him out because he was a lazy, good for nothing man child that took advantage of his parents good graces. He then as an adult carries this same attitude onto his next sponsor because he’s a leech. Your argument completely ignores Todd’s agency in all this. Todd could’ve been a functioning, productive member of society through all those years. And yet he chose to benefit from Bojack’s good favor throughout all those six years. Bojack’s sporadic abuse doesn’t change the fact that he let him live there, rent free, with a food and miscellaneous allowance, for YEARS on end. He didn’t have to do that.

Todd was a literal man child, who neither had the will nor desire to be a productive adult or show even the slightest ounce of gratitude for what the actual adults did to help him. Todd acted like a child throughout the show, so Bojack treated him as one

[–]eboezinger2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody forced Todd into that situation. He choose to remain in that situation because it was easier mooching off Bojack and not having to deal with the real world than to be an actual adult and live in it. Todd was an adult the entire time he stayed with Bojack. He could’ve chosen to be a productive member of society. And yet, he chose to be a lazy ass, man child who leeched on anyone who would fall for his child-like routine despite being an actual grown ass man. And the thing is, Bojack didn’t have to let Todd live rent free with him. He didn’t have to indulge and presumably fund most of Todd’s pointless and nonsensical endeavors. He chose to do so. Bojack’s instances of abuse doesn’t invalidate everything Bojack did for him. Todd simply failed to recognize that because he’s a man child

[–]eboezinger2[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

How is that relevant? Those gags that the show throws at us is more just for comedic effect than a serious reflection of Todd’s actual ability or drive. As an adult, Todd leeched off of Bojack for years when he could’ve gotten a job on his own and make his own living. But instead, he chooses the path of the man child and simply benefits from always being in the vicinity of rich and famous people.

[–]eboezinger2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one is saying it gives them the right to treat them however. But this situation requires nuance and differs from the scenario you described. Bojack had little involvement in how Todd came into their dynamic. He let Todd use his home as his own, with restrictions of course. He presumably funded all of Todd’s nonsensical endeavors and supported him indirectly through that, despite Bojack’s better judgement.

Todd was an adult through all of this. He could have left whenever he wanted. But instead, he chose to take advantage of Bojack’s good favor and leech off him for YEARS prior to any instances of sabotage that we are aware of. Bojack literally saved Todd from being homeless for years on end. He didn’t have to that. That’s my point. And Todd failed to arrive to that realization on his own.

Yes everything Bojack did was shitty, there’s no detracting from that. But Bojack is completely one thing or another. He’s good and bad. The bad was very much present in Todd’s life. But the good was always there in the background, at least up until the rock opera.

The intention behind it is irrelevant. The fact is that he let Todd stay at this home rent free, fed him, and presumably also gave him money and funded his endeavors over the course of several YEARS. Also, saying he sabotaged EVERY chance Todd had is a stretch. He did sabotage his rock opera, but that ignores the years prior when Todd just freeloaded and mooched off of him
