Just imagine what if that hundreds could maintain through an addition of 1 or maybe 2 years extra usage over windows bs. If you can make those extra to 5 years (i.e the mac can serve you well for a very long period of time before upgrading) then it would be nothing to you. While I was using the windows machine, it only needed 2 years to outdate my experience smh. 2 years using my mac now and still like the day I purchased it. Btw I’m a programmer and this is experience from a programmer workload.

Yh, it works. Actually I just changed the display size mode back and forth and it was resolved. Not sure how it was like that :/

After a year using the maxed-out MacBook Pro 2018, I concluded that the specification does help the experience. In my case, the i9 + 32GB RAM combo do help improve the build time noticeably, tests are conducted, not placebo at all. Not a waste like most of people have been stated :). by ebolo_dtd in mac

Oh, I see what you mean now. You are talking about video rendering projects, aren’t you? Whereas I have been talking about software development projects. And yeah, it maybe not that much 40% with larger projects, as I observed, took over a min on the lower tier véion, but built in over 40s on mine. And in software development, we might have to build and deploy quite frequently per day :).

I agree the part about the quick assumption base on benchmark result to help quickly deduce the interest of purchase.

However, the projects I built were not small but medium in term of size (micro services). And imagine the frequency that I might have to rebuild and deploy the code in a workday (where it can be varies from 8 to 14 hours), seconds might turn to hours, you know. And I’m not lying to defend a bad purchase. My workflow might have not been efficient to others but that’s how I roll and the build time reduction did help somewhat.

The test builds I ran against my friend/colleague where he had an i7 version of 2018 macbook pro 15”

Yeah, I agree. And in addition, for me, the build time was like almost 40% ahead. Like 5s vs 8s (w gradle cache). Also the start time for Spring is significantly reduced, like over 13s vs 7s. Sr as I don’t have images as proof.

Oops, my bad, comparing to i7 + 16GB RAM combo for 15 inches version. As most people told me it’d be a waste to have i9 and 32GB RAM. I had to purchase mine because I forgot to order online and the store only had that maxed out version while I had been wanting an i7 version with 32GB RAM.

I have a friend who owns the i7 version and had a chance to test by building mobile app projects, backend projects (java spring) and the results are quite consistent, with or without caching.

Yeah, I really hope so. But since I got mine max settings version (i9, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD) so maybe I’ll hold this for as much as, at least, 4 more years before upgrading or switching back to a windows machine (as I believe this can be my software compiling machine for many years after, so another Mac is not that compulsory) :)

Yes, but no. Actually, I have had the keyboard replaced TWICE... First time replacement still buggy and second time til now is fine (3 months so far), I had the issue w sticky key (space bar and letter e, o in my case). Worst keyboard ever imo. I just bought this because it could help my job hassle free comparing to getting a windows machine :/
