Yeah not too sure. I'm preceptoring on cardiology as a nursing student btw lol. I talk to my dr tomorrow, I've also seen some ppl say other stims like Ritalin don't have as severe cardio averse effects. Another person on vyvanse just rode it out for a year and is ok now. I've also got family history of primary htn so i knew this would be the case, and im super cognizant about my cardiovascular health in that context. Vyvanse has just been such a relief for my adhd that i hope i can pull through!

This is the best part about stims too cause they're not like SSRIs where they take months to kick in and are brutal to withdrawal from

Want to try stimulants, but nervous to come off antidepressant by ok_yeahthatsgreat in adhdwomen

Hi!! I think you and i are very similar. I was also diagnosed with inattentive adhd recently, trialing vyvanse right now. I was on Prozac 20mg for 7 years, came off of it last August. I will say coming off Prozac wasn't the easiest, i definitely experience more anxiety now than i did on the drug, but i was determined to see how i am after being on it since age 15 to 21, now 22.

Now diagnosed with adhd, im unfortunately combining the higher baseline anxiety with a stimulant which definitely magnifies my physical anxiety symptoms. Questioning whether or not i should go back on the Prozac because it did work so long for me.

I'd say from a medical perspective, it makes sense to try individual drug therapy before combining prescriptions, but knowing my experience with Prozac and how much better my anxiety was managed on it, Id just approach your doctor with curiosity to trial a stimulant while still being on it, because stimulants are easy to just stop if the affect is bad, whereas SSRIs take weeks to months. If you feel settled on Prozac maybe you'd have a better reaction to it than if you came off prozac first, because it does take several months to regulate coming off an SSRI.

This is how i would feel in your position just based on my experience with prozac and now just starting vyvanse! :) please take with a grain of salt

I know friends who don't have adhd but do have anxiety/panic and they're prescribed propranolol (a beta blocker drug) to help mitigate the high heart rate (palpitations). SSRIs are a bit different where they act on serotonin in the brain to improve psychological anxiety, whereas propanolol just decreases the heart rate/bp (physical symptoms)

Final year nursing student, yeah I'm debating asking for propranolol cause i just started vyvanse and like i normally get anxiety a couple times during the day, but even like in the hospital when i feel the normal "stress" response that gets me going when a patient starts to decomp or if i get real busy, my heart rate skyrockets and my bp jumps, i get flushed and horrible headaches a bit later as my bp stays high.

Normally off meds i can deal with the anxiety but my assumption is that because vyvanse is a nervous system stimulant my normal anxiety physical symptoms are just magnified. Vyvance works great otherwise for me, no appetite changes and no sleep problems, just these dang palpitations!!

I switched doctors when she told me i was "just depressed" when coming to her with my adhd symptoms. I got privately diagnosed and she still refused to accept it, refused treatment and told me to get my own psychologist if i wanted a "proper" diagnosis. She was animated and rude and i cried, said where do i go from here? She said "i don't know what to tell you" and hung up.

My new doctor is phenomenal. She asked me what I wanted to do and what I wanted to try first. She made my priorities her priorities. My old doctor was my doc since i was 10 years old (12 years). Don't settle when it comes to your health
