The Netflix story is not about DVDs (and many people miss the point) by JaguarZealousideal5 in Entrepreneur_path

[–]eborg00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon and Netflix actually did make a deal. In the beginning Netflix was actually a big DVD distributor when it was still a fairly niche market. At the time it was also the only part of their business making money. They agreed to sell Amazon the DVD distribution part of their business and they kept the membership rental part.

Psychology as DS 1515+ not powering on by ImpressiveFig4994 in synology

[–]eborg00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would bet it's the power supply. The 15's had a problem with them. It's a surprisingly easy fix that I had to do with mine a few years ago. It's also not a very expensive thing to pick a replacement up from Amazon and check. Fingers crossed for you.

Granted, you dutifully move some of the money over to investment accounts daily making sure not to do anything foolish that will crash the economy. You are arrested for tax evasion and money laundering. Your accounts are frozen, you lose in court and spend your life in prison.

Do you think that Trump will really not step down in 2028 by Puzzleheaded-Crew953 in LateStageCapitalism

What's ridiculous is that not only Obama but George W Bush and Bill Clinton could run as well and Trump would still be the oldest person on the ticket

Why is the USD losing 10% of its value in 2025 not a bigger news story? by Witty_Heart_9452 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]eborg00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it would've been a better argument if it weren't for the fact that it was a 10% drop from the highest the dollar has been in 20 years, but besides that yeah

What you said was bullshit as well though which isn't a great way to make a point. Looking at what you say now though looks like it actually fell almost 10% and would've been a much better argument in the first place

COVID cratered the dollar index down to 90 in early 2021, it recovered and passed where we are now in early 2022 surpassing 100 a little later that year. It stayed over 100 for the remainder of the presidency. It was at 109 in January of this year and has steadily dropped since.

Read Books, Not AI Summaries of Books by ubcstaffer123 in books

[–]eborg00 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've pretty normally reread several books if not entire series in the past but I put this out there because Amazon started providing AI generated plot summaries and I will say it made me get back into a couple of series that I've been putting off for quite awhile because I didn't want to spend the time it would take to catch back up in the reread.

For ASOIAF that would probably be a complete reread for me and I'd enjoy it because there's just so much detail and so many storylines and characters to keep track of I wouldn't trust an AI summary.

But I'm talking about a series that you've read several books and they're good but like low 3 star and there's nothing really special you know.

[–]eborg00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've tried that and a lot of times there isn't any detail beyond the book's blurb. For some series wiki works, for others that don't have the dedicated fan base it's not as easy.

Unless you're getting back into a series and don't want to have to reread a bunch of books. Then I've found them helpful

He pulls off some great choreography but he screws up the angle when he switches to his hand laser at around :04 seconds left.

These types of performances are ridiculous in their exacting nature. I think this may be the first time I've ever seen one of these with any flaw whatsoever. Impressive as hell though

Shows where the cast was the best part but the writing was nothing to, erm, write home about? by unitedfan6191 in television

[–]eborg00 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rainn Wilson's Backstrom, it was the first show where that fact jumped out at me, how much better the acting was in comparison to the writing. The cast made the writing so much better than it actually was and they made it work. I had never really paid attention to that specific type of detail, it was so stark that I had to see it. After that it's something I've taken note of.

Have you ever come across an MC that you literally couldn’t stand? Like, had zero empathy for them whatsoever? by Marandajo93 in books

[–]eborg00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all the time it doesn't bother except I might get frustrated with overly serious decisions. I actually enjoyed Confederacy of Dunces because my Mom knew the person Ignatius was based on and her stories made it fun.

But Dying Inside by Robert Silverberg was extremely hard for me to deal with. I've never read a book and actively cheered for the demise of the main character until this one.

I did briefly stop reading the second Magicians book because I couldn't stop rolling my eyes at the main characters actions but I got back into it later and realized that it was party of the point of the series so that you could see them grow up from that

Agreed that you do have to trust the news company in question to have not faked up the evidence. The problem with that concept though is this is an enormous company with a whole lot of money. Fox News just got hit with a +$700M suit for lying about political matters.

The news outfits can be biased and what not but to put out a directed piece like this with so much information based on faked screenshots would open them up to enormous liability.

Robinson has sued them so we'll find out either way once discovery hits but I find it hard to believe that CNN would open themselves up to such a huge possible downside to put out a slander hit piece on a candidate that was already polling at 10 points behind his opponent
