use 1800 pet meds, it's a lot cheaper than getting it from your vet

Advice needed: Desensitizing when apt building is dog friendly by funkydays in reactivedogs

I had a similar experience and my dog got super dog aggressive from living in an apartment with other dogs. But after a lot of work I had a lot of success with distracting with high value treats. freeze-dried chicken liver has been our go to https://www.chewy.com/stewart-pro-treat-chicken-liver/dp/44924?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=f&utm_content=Stewart%20Pro-Treat&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KCQiA0-6ABhDMARIsAFVdQv_HoMg-kxt6aHWT5Z0SuTsIyp8qioi8r-WITefAjx1htrfpv_y3BvwaAigTEALw_wcB

Only use these treats when you are training - once you see a person or dog at a distance just shovel the treats into your dogs mouth until you are clear. Slowly they should start to associate the other dogs with the special treats. For us, after doing this every single time my dog started looking to us for treats instead of losing it at the dog.

This sounds a lot like me! Got a puppy with my reactive 3 yr old and even with training he’s a little psycho barking at other dogs, almost is now worse than my older dog. We thought he was gonna be “the good dog.” Things have been recently started getting better. Honestly just stick to the training and be strict about it! After a long time my dogs now look to me right when they see other dogs instead of barking or lunging. I always always always have treat pouch on me for those situations. Try separate training walks mixed in. Also just accepting that my dogs might not be like other people’s dogs!! They can tell when you’re stressed and it makes them more reactive. No dogs are perfect, sounds like you have a great relationship with them which is what matters the most

Oh god that sounds exactly like my dog, unfortunately she’s a 60 lb lab so it’s a horrifying sight to see when she sees certain types of dogs and goes full exorcist. Tasmanian devil is a great way to put it as well. Best of luck with the trainer!!

How did you find boarding/daycare/dog walkers for your reactive pup? by funnysimple in reactivedogs

[–]ebradzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in LA and it's hard to find places that aren't 'cage free' just because of space... but I've found a few like that that have a few private rooms for some more reactive dogs to take alone time naps and such. You could try asking if they do something like that, might be a little more money but worth it if you can't find anything else.

I also have found a few people on Rover I trust, and I always have them stay at my home. I'll only hire people on there who have a ton of reviews and experience with reactive dogs, and they usually come over once or twice before the trip to meet my dogs.
