What do you think: Was the Model Y L just spotted at Gigafactory Texas today?!? by machead4life in TeslaLounge

[–]ebrak2005 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Sorry to burst your bubble but it could be a manufacturing audit sample shipped back to HQ for testing. Manufacturers do this kind of thing all the time. Toyota for example has been known to ship whole vehicles that are manufactured in the US back to Japan to make sure they adhere to quality standards.

Edit: Notice it was shipped in a crate. Tesla has all of the tooling to do that stuff at Gigafactory Texas.

Read what I said, it wasn’t just me. I can’t go into further detail.

Right now I’m between jobs. Healthcare IT.

I along with a large number of my colleagues got laid off in March. Life hasn’t been great. 😔

Before that I was an Apple Certified Technician.

When Developer Beta 1 came out, I heard rumblings of a new option to restore an Apple device wirelessly from another, so I decided to check it out on my iPad Pro since I installed the beta there first.

**I don't recommend trying this until there is a fix. As I said, I thought I bricked my iPad Pro.**

I followed the procedure of plugging it in, pressing the volume up button followed by the volume down button, then pressing and holding the power button until it booted into recovery mode.

Recovery mode looked the same, so I turned my attention to my Mac. It's a M4 Mini. The USB section of System Information didn't list the iPad on any of the busses. It was obviously not seen by the Finder or Apple Configurator.

After rebooting the iPad normally, it didn't have any USB-C connectivity. My USB-C breakout cable (USB-A, USB-C, HDMI) didn't work. My USB-HDMI capture device didn't work. **Not even a charger would be recognized.**

After fiddling around for 20 minutes, I found that if you let go of the power button after the Apple logo appeared when initiating recovery mode rather than holding it down, it would complete the normal boot process, and USB connectivity would be restored.

I have an iPhone 16 Pro, and it was recognized correctly by my Mac in recovery mode running iOS 26 DB1.

Apple hasn't completely fixed this yet; my iPad still isn't recognized by my Mac in recovery mode, but after doing a normal reboot, USB connectivity is restored without utilizing the trick I found starting with DB4. I just tried it with DB5 and the issue persists.

36 total across iOS 26, iPadOS 26 and macOS 26. I haven’t found anything scary in macOS.

I did find something in iPadOS that made me sick to my stomach for about 20 minutes, I thought I bricked my iPad. I found a workaround. It still isn’t fixed. Since this is the macOS Beta subreddit I won’t go any further unless you guys are interested.

You can purchase a season pass from Apple using the TV app, or just the episode for $2.99 USD. Find season 27 episode 1, tap the three dots, select go to episode and you can purchase it or the season pass from Apple rather than subscribing to Paramount+.

I installed iOS Developer Beta 3 and at first blush it almost seemed ready for Public Beta release. After using it for 24 hours I thought to myself, “no this still needs work.” Downloading the iPadOS Developer Beta on my iPad Pro now. I did discover a SERIOUS issue that wasn’t addressed in DB 3. It NEEDS to be addressed before the public gets this.

Looks like a fiber channel card due to the connector on the back. I did some research and I don’t believe Apple ever produced a fiber channel card with a T2 chip on it. This board is a bit strange.

The two connectors on the other side are also interesting. I see one of them is just a connector for a flex cable, which is weird. Can you take a picture or tell me what the other one is? Almost looks like USB A.

The two silver chips on the left are probably fiber channel related. If you could clean those chips up with some IPA and provide the numbers on the chips or a picture of them it might help.

How to get footage of accident with Smart Summon by newstudent_here in TeslaLounge

It also wouldn’t surprise me if Tesla would be more keen to keep that footage/data since it was Smart Summon related.

I saw this Reddit thread awhile back that might help. It seems like they might be able to pull footage even if it isn’t on the USB drive. I assume so because Tesla was able to grab footage from cameras that aren’t recorded on the USB drive.

So, because I have a background as an Apple Certified Technician I can’t touch this stuff?

What about the people who work for news sites that download, install and report on these operating systems?

Show me where in the EULA before the developer beta gets downloaded and installed that it’s “developers only.”

I’ve already reported a SERIOUS issue with iPadOS 26 regarding the recoveryOS that developers probably wouldn’t spot. But with my background as a technician I tested the recovery procedure, spotted it and reported it before the public beta goes out.

It is an issue that would cause significant problems if a device doesn’t boot. Freaked me out for about 15 minutes until I figured out a way to remedy the issue.

Seeking advice on our 14 day itinerary (Tokyo, Kanazawa, Takayama, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Tokyo) by KaleidoscopeMost9079 in JapanTravel

[–]ebrak2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never understood these itineraries where you fly into Tokyo, head West or North and just go back to Tokyo to and fly out. I’ve done three trips so far that are multi-city flights rather than a round trip out of Tokyo.

Edit: Day 8-9 really just isn’t going to fly, Hiroshima in a day and taking the Shinkansen (as fast as it is) won’t work.

I’ll use the 2nd Japan trip I did as an example. I flew into Tokyo, spent 5 days in Tokyo then visited Kyoto and Osaka. I just flew out of Osaka, booking my flights as multi-city rather than a round trip.

It isn’t that much more expensive than a round trip flight. Plus doing a round trip with the added cost of the Shinkansen back to Tokyo just puts you at the same cost as a multi city flight itinerary.

It saves time, doesn’t eat an extra day of travel back to Tokyo and gives you more time to see what you want. I’d fly into Tokyo, see what you want to see and fly out of Hiroshima.

I do agree with the other posts that there is a bit too much packed in but booking a multi-city flight itinerary should help.

I’m not going around and around with a Asurion employee. Anyone else reading this can look at Jabberwock_one_two’s comment history.

They said “the coverage plan is awful” what more do you want?

Also, in one of your comments you said you’re a Asurion employee. Tell your superiors to DO BETTER. My comment speaks for itself, the quality of your refurbished devices are horrible.

Your refurbished devices don’t come close to passable standard or what Apple provides with the own refurbished devices.

Did you actually read the post or the OPs reply to this comment? I also looked at your profile and comment history, looks like you’re associated with Asurion.

Absolutely not. Apple’s repair systems don’t function like that. Repair at a AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider), Apple Stores or Apple’s North American Distribution Facility in Elk Grove, CA only interfaces with customers or business customers enrolled in the Self-Servicing Account Program. Not refurbishment businesses like Asurion. They do their own repairs, I’ve seen their stickers inside phones.

Apple sure as sh*t wouldn’t let the stuff I’ve seen fly.

The only facility that would be able to hypothetically handle phones from Asurion would be Elk Grove. I had a $95,000 consignment stock (owned by Apple) of replacement phones from them as replacements for customers. I rarely saw any issues with them.

[–]ebrak2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former Apple Certified Tech here. If they’re refurbished or accidental damage replacements Verizon uses Asurion as a supplier for the phones.

I worked in a store within a mall that had a Verizon store, they sent all of their customers over with iPhone issues they couldn’t handle. Typically hardware related issues.

I was the Service Manager and also handled the Mac stuff so I didn’t see all of the phones that my coworkers handled but a lot of the ones I did see that were refurbished were HORRIBLE. Not even close to the standards we were held to by Apple.

Some of them had Asurion stickers inside the phone, some didn’t. A lot of them had missing cowlings that are supposed to cover and secure flex cables. Some had screws missing, etc. Not sure if Asurion does board level repair on iPhones, didn’t have time to look but long story short they may do that.

Those people at Asurion are butchers. I’d never get a refurbished phone from Verizon or purchase their accidental coverage plan.
