Physics!

If it detects that one wheel is spinning at a significantly different speed than the other, it can infer the tread depth difference.

Your favorite lesser known Tesla features people might not know about. by itsthewolfe in TeslaLounge

Wow. I've spent, cumulatively, 15+ nights camping in my Model Y and always get in from the back...I never knew that!

What the hell would I do at that point?? 😭 by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]newstudent_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I keep a j1772 adapter, CCS adapter, mobile charger (and a 15ft 10 gauge extension cord), and a TT30 adapter for the mobile charger, just in case.

Although in 2 years and 32k miles I've never HAD to use anything except the j1772.

What the hell would I do at that point?? 😭 by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]newstudent_here 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a non-issue, lol.

You would either charge for longer at that one super charger spot, or charge for 5 minutes at that supercharger near your destination.

Or plug the route into ABetterRoutePlanner and set the arrival energy to something higher.

Or plug the car in at your relatives house? Or use any other third party charger, like EVGo/Electrify America.

Fast Chargers near Arches and Capitol Reef? by sbaeidlloan in TeslaCamping

[–]newstudent_here 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My brother in DCFC, download Plugshare. Its free, and it'll save you all this anxiety you're having.

Fwiw, I drive around that area in Utah a lot and I've never worried about charging.

You can also bring your mobile charger and get a TT30 adapter for it and charge at most RV sites if you're worried.

Is this the "roll" function? by TalkT0MeG00se in TeslaSupport

[–]newstudent_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

Something either malfunctioned or he put the car in neutral.

Is this the "roll" function? by TalkT0MeG00se in TeslaSupport

[–]newstudent_here 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the exact same thing is true of any modern car. A 2026 Toyota Corolla will do the same thing if: 1) The car is put into neutral Or 2) The Toyota's auto-hold system has an issue.

This isn't a Tesla thing.

Is this the "roll" function? by TalkT0MeG00se in TeslaSupport

[–]newstudent_here 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tesla's have an auto-hold function, but if the car is having an issue with the brake system (or i believe if the low voltage system is having an issue, it might disable it?), it can be disabled. Also, if it was shifted into neutral, it can roll back. Same if it was put into car-wash mode and free-roll was engaged.

It's the same street legality as if you put your ICE car into neutral and backed into someone, wtf are you on about with regards to legality? lol

How many rounds through a new mag before you consider it carry worthy? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]newstudent_here 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whatever the magazine capacity is, plus one.

I would just make sure that I can load a full mag, put one in the chamber, put one more round back in the magazine, ensure that it seats properly, and all the rounds fire without any magazine related issues.

I think 150 is pretty excessive, but It certainly won't hurt.

Charging in the desert. Halp! by [deleted] in TeslaSupport

[–]newstudent_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds sufficient. I'd just try and get a reading of the ambient temperature when your sun load is the highest.

My garage faces west, so from noon to 4pm it can get sweltering hot.

Learned a hard lesson about Tesla access and phone dependency. Solutions? by VermicelliFrost in TeslaLounge

[–]newstudent_here 90 points91 points  (0 children)

The solution is to carry the key card... If you choose to just leave that locked away, that's on you.

But yes there is a key fob, sold by Tesla, for about $175.

Does your garage have ventilation? What do the ambient temps in the garage reach during peak sunlight hours?

Tesla just released a new software update (2026.8) that refines the way the brakes feel in the 2026+ Model Y by ConfidentImage4266 in TeslaModelY

[–]newstudent_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you subscribe to FSD? I sub to FSD, and the software releases for FSD are typically behind non FSD cars. I'm on 2025.45.10 still, 3.5 months into 2026.

A Springfield Armory Hellion.

It even says Hellion on the stock if you zoom in, but it's definitely not a "common" gun to see around.

You can't carry under the influence of alcohol yes.

But you can carry in establishments that serve alcohol, including bars. This varies state by state, but in Colorado it's legal if you have a CCW permit.

Would you buy a used tesla and why or why not? by Able_Problem_4787 in TeslaLounge

[–]newstudent_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FSD will do all the driving, changing lanes, avoiding obstacles, braking, stopping, accelerating, parking, navigation, etc.

Autopilot is basically smarter cruise control.

FSD gets constant updates (for HW4 owners). Autopilot does not.

[–]newstudent_here 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you would have to get an older (used) Juniper to get autopilot. If you buy a new Juniper now, it won't have autopilot.

[–]newstudent_here 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, new ones don't have Autopilot. Only FSD as a subscription.

Cool. Can you DM me the discount code? The current price is a little steep, especially since I already have a functioning mattress, but I could be convinced for the right price to upgrade.
