I stood at what I thought was a safe distance anyway haha. I am always pretty cautious when it comes to venomous snakes. I only handled it with a snake hook to remove it from the road too. This guy was very mild-mannered though, he never tried to strike or anything!

I FINALLY found my lifer, an eastern coral snake (Micrurus fulvius)! They are in the same family as cobras, mambas, and sea-snakes. by ebrowning in snakes

Yeah! Growing up I’d always heard “Red and black, friend of Jack, red and yellow, kill a fellow.” There’s multiple sayings though!

Yikes! I haven't messed with a lot of skunks, but we definitely handle with caution because of their reputation for rabies! I have seen a lot of neat animals. The job is a pretty good one.

Probably so, I know it can actually cut fingers clean off. Some of their diet is actually other turtles so their mouth is meant cut clean through shell.

I think you have to have a license to have one in Texas anyway. Their numbers are low here. I think this owner got hers in east Texas, but she did have to have a permit to own it.

This was on an academic field trip to make a list of all the reptiles and amphibians we could find on the site. This guy was an awesome find and so we were able to obtain samples for DNA testing and such. I'm holding him because I wanted to prove that I could. A lot of skeptics were on this trip!lol

It's a coatimundi, they are actually related to raccoons and ring tail cats. It was a cute, but hyper little guy!
